Today we have an fun story to go with the picture! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
"West Palm Beach, Florida. 1987.
I qualified on the pole and won. The back story is that I knew in order to get the pole (it was very very close at the front), I would have to put the car at a huge risk by straight-lining the timing line. It was one of the first races of the year - and my first with the factory Acura team - so I was the new kid with much to prove. I had won the national championship in my first year as a Honda factory driver the year before, but the Acura team was all new for me.
Exec VP Tom Elliott (the overseer of the program) was in attendance at West Palm Beach, so I asked him directly if the pole was worth possibly damaging the car. He must have thought I was kidding or at least exaggerating, given the presence of a large concrete wall at the exit of where the timing line was located. So... in Qualifying, when this photo was taken, I was all out - shot the timing line - just brushed the wall (no serious damage) - and got the pole.
After witnessing what I did firsthand (Tom was standing on the outside of the wall that I was aimed at, at full throttle until the last possible moment), he took my questions much more seriously from that point on.
That pole - and ensuing race win - started the momentum that carried us to the championship in 1987."

I stopped by to visit today and it was great seeing everyone there. Unfortunately some people working there were off today. It felt like home visiting Wilsonville Honda today and great people to work with and I miss working there.
I was forced to trade in my Pilot for a Sequoia a few months ago. Which meant that I would no longer be able to use Parker Johnstone’s wonderful service team. I’m writing this, sitting in my car for half an hour waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence at the Toyota dealership across the freeway. Man I wish Honda made a V8!

My situation was unusual and I was shopping online for a Honda instead of in person. Before I found Parker Johnstone’s Wilsonville Honda I got the brush off twice because I was calling on the phone to do the deal instead of in person. As soon as I called Parker Johnstone’s Kim in the internet department answered and was friendly and took me seriously. She didn’t bat an eye at my unusual situation and she got the ball rolling. Everyone from Gaylen my salesperson to the finance department were competent and got things done quickly. I really appreciated being treated well and even when there was a slight hiccup with a part Gaylen went out of her way to more than made up for any inconvenience. The service department is top notch and everything was resolved beyond my expectations. I am so happy with my new Honda.
