Way to go guys on bring home the win
Saturday was quite a day! A timeline:
6:30 AM: I left home solo with my beloved Moser Engineering Vega for the KY Bottom Bulb Bash (two 10-granders in one day)
9:30 AM: Made my first lap of the day at Beacon Dragway (Paducah, KY)
In the first race, I got rolling pretty good and made some nice laps off the bottom. David Bell and Seth Lancaster handed me not one, but two “Best losing package” awards in race one; the second coming in the quarterfinals. Those two were incredible all day – they were deserving finalists (David was .011, take .005 to lose to Seth's .010 package in the final)!
4:00 PM: Start race 2 at Beacon
In race two, I made a pair of solid (not great) runs in round 2, and needed to be great... So my day was done earlier than I had hoped (or so I thought). In my 9-ish hours in Paducah, I made 18 runs. They had a very light crowd, but ran an excellent race, and paid out all the money they promised. Great race!
6:00 PM: Roll out of Beacon, headed for home… Called to check on my home track and heard that they were running a little behind schedule, and realized that I might be able to race again!
7:15 PM: I rolled into I57 Dragstrip just before they called round 1 to the lanes. I had less than a quarter-tank of fuel and had a warning buzzer going off in the motorhome for 30 minutes (due to a lingering leveling jack issue). I knew it was a simple fix, I just wasn’t sure I could waste the 5 minutes on the side of the road to fix it (much less the 15 minutes to fill up with diesel)! Chris Estep Motorsports helped me roll the Vega out of the trailer (it still had heat in it!), and I rolled into the lanes for round 1 of Footbrake! Jess and the boys came out to watch and cheer on myself, along with my father-in-law and sister-in-law (we all went rounds).
12:00 AM: No time trials, no buybacks, and 14 win lights later, we held two trophies at night’s end, winning BOTH Super Pro AND Footbrake! It was my first win at I-57 in a LONG time – we’ve got some excellent local racers, and they have a tendency to be rough on me! Not a “big” win, but it’s always fun to race at home with our family and friends, and it felt great to break through again at Benton!
On the day, the Vega and I made 32 laps across 6 entries at two tracks in two different states, all in a little over 14 hours (nearly two of which were spent on the road)! The car was flawless despite that torture test, which is a testament to the quality components we depend on week in and week out:
Obviously Moser Engineering heads that list, as we stress test their axles, center section, and brakes... Plus:
