We have received several calls regarding the topic below so we wanted to address it here as well to try and help spread awareness.
When you have a vehicle incident and are needing repairs, the insurance company you file the claim with will likely suggest "direct repair facilities" who participate in the "direct repair program." (DRP)
This means the suggested insurance company is in contract with the body shop(s) and have locked in rates that are non-negotiable. The representative you file your claim with will even tell you that the work is only guaranteed by the insurance company if you utilize a shop within the DRP.
This is false.
The body shop itself is who stands behind their work. The insurance company has nothing to do with that.
They will also, likely say that in addition to your deductible, you may be responsible for other out of pocket expenses if you don't utilize one of these specific facilities.
This is again, false.
This is because every body shop works with the insurance adjusters on the estimate specifics, coming to an agreement on the cost of repairs; whether they're a direct repair facility or not.
You have the final say in where the repairs are completed.
