🦌🍂 DEER MATING SEASON IS HERE! 🚗⚠️

Did you know deer mating season typically peaks from mid-October through November? That means our chances of encountering deer on the road can increase, especially during dawn and dusk.

A few reminders to help keep you and your passengers safe:

🚗 Slow down on rural roads and near wooded areas.
👀 Scan the sides of the road, not just the pavement ahead.
🦌 If you see one deer, expect others nearby!
💡 Use your high beams when appropriate and when there’s no oncoming traffic.
⚠️ If a deer jumps in front of you, brake firmly and stay in your lane if it’s safe to do so. Swerving can cause an even more serious crash.

🍂 Give yourself extra time, stay alert, and remember that arriving safely is always worth a few extra minutes!

Last week we were on KWCH, and they interviewed my driver`s ed student and I about the dangers of speeding in neighborhoods.
-speeding in residential areas drastically reduces driver reaction time and increases stopping distance, it leads drivers to lose control of their vehicle, and it puts children, pedestrians and pets at risk. A pedestrian or bicyclist hit at 20 mph has a 90% chance of survival, but a pedestrian hit at 40 mph only has a 20% chance of surviving. And it doesn't matter how affluent or modest your neighborhood is, there are always drivers tempted to speed, break the law and unfortunately endanger lives. If we can bring more attention to it, maybe more drivers will be part of the solution, rather than the problem
