If your check engine light is on, your oxygen sensors are failing, or your vehicle is overdue for routine maintenance, you could be spending more at the pump than necessary.

TRIVIA REVEAL -- The battery, the alternator, and the starter. The battery starts the car, the starter cranks the engine, and the alternator powers everything and recharges the battery as you drive. We test all three. (316) 205-0015.

TRIVIA WEDNESDAY -- Your car's charging and starting system has three main components. Can you name them? Drop your guess below and we will reveal it this afternoon.

Summer heat ends more batteries than winter cold, because it wears them out from the inside. We will test yours and the whole charging system so a dead battery never strands you. Call (316) 205-0015.

Trivia Wednesday Answer

In Kansas, the river is pronounced "ar-KAN-zas" — the same as the state name. In the state of Arkansas, the river is also called the Arkansas River but pronounced "AR-kan-saw" — matching the state's own pronunciation.

The distinction traces back to the river's naming history. The name derives from the Quapaw people, whom French explorers called the "Arkansea." French pronunciation rendered it closer to "AR-kan-saw," which stuck in the southern regions where French influence was stronger. In Kansas, where the river was encountered and named primarily by American settlers moving west, the spelling was read phonetically — "ar-KAN-zas" — and that pronunciation took hold. A 1881 Arkansas state legislature resolution formally established "AR-kan-saw" as the official pronunciation for the state. Kansas has its own long-standing tradition of the alternate pronunciation and has never changed it. Two states, one river, two pronunciations — and both are correct in their own geography. Central Auto Repair & Electric has been navigating Wichita's roads and rivers since 1982 and will still be here long after this debate continues.

Trivia Wednesday

The Arkansas River runs right through downtown Wichita and is the centerpiece of Riverfest each year. Here is your question: Despite being spelled "Arkansas," the river that runs through Kansas is pronounced differently than the state of Arkansas. How is the river pronounced in Kansas — and why does Kansas use a different pronunciation than the state?
