Had a vehicle come in today with a dead battery. Due to the the battery showing no signs of leaking acid or damage, a few extra checks were needed to verify that just the battery was bad and it was not a victim of a deeper problem. The most important was this battery draw test, performed after replacing the battery, which tested bad. This draw test measures how much battery current the vehicle is using and makes sure the vehicle is going to 'sleep' properly and not running the battery down. The result in the picture, after allowing the vehicle to sit for 30-ish minutes, is 0.010 amps, which is well within Ford's specification of less than 0.050 amps. Most vehicles will settle between 0.030 and 0.010 amps. Performing this check is good practice to prevent a repeat visit in a few days with another dead battery.
