After 25 years of teaching people aged 17 to 65 how to drive — I’m finally retiring.
Yes, I survived. And so did most of the cars.
I’ve seen everything: the “is this the brake?” panic presses, mirror checks that definitely happened somewhere in the student’s mind, gear changes that sounded like we were calling upon ancient spirits, and those glorious moments when it finally clicks and I stop slamming my imaginary brake into the floor.
To everyone who trusted me with their lessons, their confidence, and my heart rate: thank you. It’s been an honour helping so many people find their independence on the road — even if some of you tried to get there in second gear… the whole journey.
Now, rumours of my disappearance have been slightly exaggerated.
I’ll still be continuing with all my current learners until they’ve taken their tests — so if you’re already buckled in for the ride, don’t panic, we’re seeing this through together! After that, I’ll be easing off the accelerator and enjoying retirement… at a sensible speed, of course.
So if you spot me in the passenger seat, gripping the door handle like I’m on a roller coaster, feel free to give me a wave — ideally after stopping the car.
Thank you for the memories, the laughs, and the years taken off my life expectancy — it’s been an unforgettable ride. 👋🚗😄
