Narcissists are all about control.
Whether you are a current, former, or prospective supply, narcissists like to control.
And once the narcissist has had you in their grips, their sphere of influence, they see you as forever belonging to them.
Even if you have been reduced to just dirty laundry which they may seek to reuse only years down the line, or perhaps never.
Still, they want to have control over you.
And they want to see evidence that their control over you still stands.
When you go no contact on the narcissist.
When you stop giving them and form of feedback, of insights into you, your life, your thoughts.
The narcissist experiences a daunting vacuum.
A terrifying void, which they must fill by regaining some form of leverage over you again.
They want to see you pining over them again.
They want to sabotage any prospects of your happiness, success, freedom.
Gaining some form of influence over you again, becomes their primary objective.
They just can't accept letting you be, if you are now better off than them.
The risk that you may become truly happy and fulfilled one day without them, not needing them, or perhaps worse, I’m already happier without them is more than enough motivation for the narcissist to make you their full focal point – uummmm NO
wanting to concoct some form scheme, which allows them to work their way back into your life.
This is where I use my NPD experience, to acknowledge any signs they are attempting to make a reappearance, and softly ignore.
And of course ignoring them, may trigger them even further.
Let them sort out their emotional disturbance without you.
Having broken those confining chains –
I am now my own person
I am now their ghost.
