One thing CLI prides itself on is the quality of work that gets done here. We may not always be the fastest shop especially with bigger projects but when a customer gets their vehicle back, it's typically done correctly (can't count for crappy parts). With that said, we are looking for some extra mechanical help with completing some of the bigger jobs. This would be part time, weekends, your days off, etc. Experience is a must and you will be compensated appropriately for the experience you have. It is also a requirement that you uphold the quality of work that Chris delivers. If interested, please reach out directly to us on here or call the shop. 716-942-6056

Quality of parts, where did it go?

I installed a remanufactured rack and pinion in a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer about six months ago. Customer had said about two months after that he had to start putting a very small amount of power steering fluid in it to keep it full. Vehicle came in recently for other issues and it was discovered the rack and pinion bellows had taken on fluid, seals leaking in rack and pinion.

So being a warranty part and it was a remanufactured part we suggested to go with a new rack and pinion versus another remanufactured one. Part store was nice enough to absorb the extra cost.

First brand new rack and pinion did not come with the press in line seals for the lines to be attached. This model does not use just o rings, instead small seals that need to be pressed in rack and pinion. No seals in box. Part store provided new ones at no charge and the seals were significantly smaller that the holes. So no go.

Second brand new rack and pinion is the same as the first. Identical issue.

Part store now orders another rack and pinion and I drive to Tonawanda to pick it up because delivery was suspended because of weather and install it. It blew all of the power steering fluid out of the input shaft seal in less than a minute. Uninstall it to find out in the manufacturing process it got damaged and then a seal was installed in a not so circle of a hole.

So, getting another new rack and pinion won't work cause the seals won't fit for the lines and a remanufactured one might be blowing all the fluid out of the seals......

Keeping a timeline..., how?
