On today’s episode of I have vault hubs/bearing buddies. I don’t need my bearings repacked..
On this triple, it broke the caliper off of its mount and saved the spindle. Another wheel needed inner and outer bearings and another wheel was very sloppy and full of water. 3/6 hubs had issues.
What’s even worse is a tire shop that just put tires on this trailer before he took it this last weekend told him he didn’t need his bearings repacked!
EVERY SINGLE YEAR FOLKS!! It doesn’t mater if your boat went into the water one time the previous year. Your boat trailer needs to be serviced.
One last thing, DO NOT travel next to any trailer that is on the road!

Yesterday mornings campsite/resort repair.. what’s even worse is another company “repacked” the bearings on this trailer a couple weeks ago and didn’t recommend replacing the springs. 4x new higher weight rated springs were installed so they won’t flatten out and will last a lot longer.
I also pulled a dust cap to check/see the “repack” the other company did and I could see the rollers through the outer bearing cage. He also uses general purpose grease which won’t last long in there. Customer didn’t want me to repack the bearings.

This is becoming a daily…
Boat trailers need to be serviced EVERY YEAR even if you put it in the water one time! All other trailers need to be serviced every other year even if you used it one time.
Also, always do a full walk around and a visual of your trailer. This Cracked wheel was found on a boat trailer.

I can only say it so much… watch out what you’re traveling next to on the road………
Luckily this guy made it home safely.
Every other bearing and race on the trailer was bad.

There was only 1 boat trailer today that we worked on today that didn’t need a new bearing or race or full hub. He has us service his boat trailer every year!

It’s not if, it’s when.. parking lot repair first thing this morning. This trailer has never been serviced. “I just do a few pumps of grease before I leave and feel my hubs at rest stops”. Every bearing and race was bad on all 4 drums! I had to cut part of the nose of the hub off to get this drum off. Then cut the inner race off.

Pay for 3 trailer services and get one free.
The group of trailers will get 3 trailers serviced at regular price and the 4 this is free! The trailers will need to be together at the same location and done at the same time. They can be set at a church, park, same street (low traffic) Walmart parking lot or anywhere where we will be out of traffic and everyone’s way. This will include repacking the bearings, adjusting the brakes and suspension inspection. What is included in a service is; labor, new seals and supplies. Any extra parts needed are extra. I.E. Bearing, brakes, drums, springs ect.

Yesterday was a long day. It started out in grantsville to R&R a spring then back to West Jordan to repack some bearings on a huge gooseneck to find out it has sealed bearings. After Kyson and I got home, 20 mins later I got a call to go to Fairview lakes (the top of Fairview canyon) to fix a borrowed dump trailer. We serviced the whole trailer and had to replace a couple other bearings along with the new drum and fix the spindle. We also found it had a broken spring as well. It had been broke for a while and I didn’t have a spring with me to replace it so we strapped it to keep the axle inline to get it down the mtn. It was a 12 hour day and over 300 miles. Needless to say, I didn’t get any yard work done yesterday… 😁. But I’m not a landscaper, I’m a mechanic and would rather make trailers safe for our families to travel next to on the road.

If you own a snowmobile trailer that gets used for snowmobiles all winter long in the salt and does not get serviced regularly and the brakes don’t work, expect the brakes to be seized and they will have to be cut off. The nut will seize to the splined bolt and then it will spin in the back plate. I cringe every time I hear “my brakes don’t work on my snowmobile trailer”. They are a pain to cut off!

I’m asked all the time about the morryde, equa-flex, road armor and alltrek equalizers and my opinion on them. I DO NOT like any of them! The ONLY ones I like are the Dexter E-Z Flex equalizers if I had a choice over the original equalizers. The reason is they have way too much torque on the suspension and frame. I’ve seen frames fold from them or because of them. The e-z flex have the same design as the cast equalizers. They have a big thick rubber and split design to help with chucking and has cushion for the ride. These will out last any of the others by many years. these are much stronger and have a lot less moving parts and components. These don’t have the small rubber pads all the others do and they follow the original design of the original equalizers. This trailers suspension was wore out as well.

My trailers are meticulously maintained and consistently more than they ever should be. This is my luck at 9am today though. Good ole Lippert Components stuff! This is just the worst case scenario for me….
My dumb a$$ has been putting off putting 5200 lb axles under my trailer for over a year and this is what I get for procrastinating. luckily I was about a mile from my house pulling out of the gas station when the spindle broke. Tomorrow all the suspension is cut out and all new hangers and axles are getting installed.
Just a side note, it’s very loud when a spindle breaks 😂😆
