Happy Water Follies Wednesday! Just a week and a half from now, the North American Model Boat Association, or NAMBA, will be hosting the RC Hydroplane Nationals!
The event goes from July 18 to July 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, which means eight straight days of racing! Spectators are free from the 18th to the 22nd, but will need Water Follies admission and parking passes for Thursday through Saturday of race weekend. NAMBA Nationals will be held in conjunction with the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Races, part of the Tri-City Water Follies Columbia Cup!
There will be non-stop action at the Family Fishing Pond, and hosting RC Nationals this year is a FIRST for the Tri-Cities! Typically, we see a day of amazing RC racing at the pond on Saturday, but this year, itβs EIGHT straight days of racing. According to Gary Grembowski, the Site Coordinator for NAMBA, more than 120 drivers and over 650 RC hydros have registered to compete from as far as Florida. RC hydros have been racing at the Family Fishing Pond for nearly five decades, but this is the first time weβve seen it like this.
If you love watching the big boats, youβll love watching the RC models. Youβre close to the action, boats are racing just inches from each other, roostertailing and cruising around 60 to 70 miles per hour, and the heats are minutes apart, with around 35 different classes of racing. Come by the Columbia River and the Family Fishing Pond from July 18 through July 25 to check out the action, and of course, to watch the 2026 Apollo Columbia Cup and STCU Over-the-River Air Show between July 24 and 26.
