This is a very good picture of why changing oil is important and when buying a used car why checking Carfax maintenance records is a really good idea. This is engine oil sludge due to not changing engine oil. This cars variable valve timing advance system (VTEC-its a Honda not a Jeep) quit working because it’s powered by oil pressure. The passage ways the oil moved through were too clogged up to work. The vertical scrape mark in the first picture is to show how thick the sludge is. The good news? It has good oil pressure. It’s just not making it all the way up to the VTEC controls.
