Even in an EV industry focused on practicality and usability, fast cars are still fun. A Porsche Taycan proved that this month, when it completed a rapid "cannonball run" across the U.S. A team of 3 drivers went nonstop from New York to Los Angeles in 45 hours and 16 minutes, smashing the previous record of just over 46 hours.

But it wasn't all about speed. The trio had to charge regularly, and used their record-breaking journey as a way to test America's charging network.

As they found, the network passed with flying colors.

The Taycan became the fastest electric car to travel from New York to Los Angeles in early January. The previous record was held by Tesla.
