An unfortunate end to Greyson’s night after dominating the early stages of the race. Without a doubt one of the fastest cars all weekend. Greyson will give it another go at the big money July 23 at SIR.
Highbanks Hustle is in the books.
Dash- WIN
Feature 17th DNF
We fought hard all weekend but just couldn’t get the job done. Our troubles started with a broken left rear shock and a fueling issue after being driven through by a competitor. It was a tough pill to swallow because Troy handed me an incredible race car, and we put it on the pole after winning the dash.
From the drop of the green, I was able to get out front and defend the lead through multiple cautions. Unfortunately, on one restart, I got run over coming to the cone, which caused the rear tires to lose grip and cost us the lead. I settled into second and held my ground until another restart led to a slider from way out in the parking lot that slammed into the side of the car and tore up a lot of parts.
I knew something was broken, but I was able to get the car to the bottom, keep it under control, and hang on to fourth place until a red flag came out. After the red flag, the car wouldn’t re-fire, ending our shot at the $12,500 payday.
The frustrating part is that we showed incredible speed all night. I felt great behind the wheel, and I truly believe we had the car to beat. I just wish we could have had a cleaner race and fewer cautions so I could really get the car wound up and show what it was capable of. Unfortunately, the luck just wasn’t on our side.
A huge thank you to August Skinner and his dad for all their hard work on this engine package. It was absolutely on point all night long. I only wish I could have rewarded your effort with a better finish.
Troy Leonard, thank you for believing in me and giving me such a fast race car. I could put it anywhere on the track, and your hard work preparing it throughout the weekend was invaluable. Thank you!!!
Lastly, thank you to my parents. You’ve always believed in my racing and continue to help me get to the track and do what I love more than anything. I’m incredibly grateful for your support.
With every race—good or bad—I try to find something I can learn from and use to become a better driver. I’ve already got a few ideas moving forward, and with that, it’s on to the next one.
