Turbochargers and superchargers force more air into an engine, but compressing that air also creates heat.

An air-to-water intercooler helps manage that heat by transferring it from the intake air into coolant flowing through the intercooler. That heated coolant then carries the heat away to a separate heat exchanger.

The goal is simple: reduce intake-air temperatures and help a forced-induction engine make the most of the air going into it.

You know your radiator keeps your engine cool. But how does it actually work?

Coolant absorbs heat from the engine, travels to the radiator, and releases that heat into the surrounding air. The cooled coolant then makes its way back to the engine to start the process again.

Your radiator can only release heat if air is moving through it.

When your vehicle is moving, air naturally flows through the radiator. But when you're sitting in traffic, moving slowly, or idling, there isn't enough vehicle-generated airflow to do the job on its own.

That’s where your cooling fan and shroud come in. The fan creates airflow, while the shroud helps direct that airflow through the radiator.

Good cooling isn't just about the radiator. Airflow matters.
