Cold weather is coming. The good news is it's not the end of the world and nothing we haven't seen before. For my customers that are living in these units, please take advantage of a few of the pieces of advice that I'm going to give. Share it if need be, and most importantly call me if you need me because we will be out in this

Make sure your propane tanks are filled even if you have to wait in line. If you don't have one spare go ahead and grab it just in case.

Make sure that your battery disconnects or not off so that your batteries are properly charged

Fill up your freshwater tanks because your water pump runs off of 12 volts and can be used when no power is present.

You can use your tow vehicle or any vehicle with a corresponding plug to help charge your battery. If you have any additional batteries around go ahead and put those on a charger if you have one.

Do not run open source propane heaters indoors without ventilation.

If you lose power, and should be cold enough that if you put a cooler out and keep your stuff fresh enough to use.

If you have a generator go ahead and run it now and make sure you put it under a load in case there's a problem. Camping World's getting another shipment of them tomorrow morning

This 1969 houseboat had a unit that me or no other technician in the area has ever seen. Needless to say parts are not available, so we upgraded them to the 15,000 BTU Houghton heat pump complete with full remote. Installed with a two-year warranty

We may not post a lot but we are still out here. Customer had a little mishap and hit something. State Farm was happy to step up and take care of their end of it, not only did we fix it, we installed the quietest AC I have ever heard. Now he has a low profile unit that makes half of the noise of his original coleman. Of course it comes with a 2-year warranty and looks way cleaner. This is 110 volt only unit does not require 12 volts or a thermostat and operates off of a remote control.

12 volt conversion for a Norcold fridge we did for a customer. This allows you to bypass the need for propane, or 120 volt. The refrigerator runs solely on the 12v system and also while in transit just with the charge of the battery and the connected tow vehicle. Pulls a little over 7 amps. It also is available with up to a 6-year warranty.

There's a lot of good and a lot of bad within this industry. However one of the best things about it is you guys typically have animals for me to play with. I keep doggie treats on hand and laser for the kitties.

Today's adventure we helped out a customer for their Labor Day weekend retreat. Often with camper AC units we replaced them typically due to them leaking and losing refrigerant. This is a an example of a failing compressor with an intact refrigerant circuit on a 2011 coleman AC. After 30 minutes it would trip the breaker, this was due to internal resistance inside the compressor. With limited parts availability and a short window for repair we switched them over to a Furrion 15,000 BTU unit with an on-hand conversion kit.

Those of you who know me know that we typically don't exist on Sundays, but sometimes we have to help great customers. A customer with a Coleman basement unit could not find any shop along their route that would even schedule them for an appointment because of the style AC that they have. We were glad to remove and inspect the unit for them on site and find the culprit of a bad capacitor. Of course we're going to clean it out while we're inside of it and get the coils all scrubbed up.
