Our building is almost 130 years old!
Built in the early 1900s, Lincoln Elementary, served African American students from 1st through 8th grade during segregation. Originally a one-room schoolhouse, it later expanded as enrollment grew. From what we have gathered students learned with hand-me-down books and began each day with prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and songs like Lift Every Voice and Sing.
When Wentzville schools integrated in 1957, Lincoln School closed but, the building lived on.
That same year, it became Wentzville Auto Body & Glass, owned by the Toth family for over 40 years. While the business expanded and the exterior changed, much of the original school structure remained. You'll still see the original flooring and black boards in our showroom.
Today, this building stands as one of the last African American historic landmarks in St. Charles County. We are always looking for more information/pictures to keep record!
