Here's a job from this week, 2010 Audi Q5 with a misfire. It had 3 codes, CYL #5 Misfire, CYL #5 & 6 Fuel/Air Imbalance. These engines and most modern vehicles past the mid 2000's use Direct Injection. The fuel injector actually goes all the way into the combustion chamber (where all the fire and angry gasses live) this, overtime, results in the very small and precise hole in the tip of the injector to build up with carbon and the fuel turns into a small garden hose instead of a fine mist. It also affects the amount of fuel that it sprays which is very important. This causes misfires, rough running, and all sorts of driveability issues. The solution is to either buy a new set of injectors which are very expensive ($1000-1700), or get the original injectors serviced. We opted for getting them serviced to save the customer a significant amount of money. This brings the cost down to just $225! While we had it apart, I recommended to replace the plastic coolant housings and heater pipe as they're made out of plastic and commonly fail giving you a coolant leak nightmare. If you have an auto repair job that you want quoted, give me a call.
