Caroline did so well today. She came out of anesthesia and finished some crackers, goldfish, Cheetos and asked for Chipotle for lunch. We have a new plan to wake up her colon and praying hard it works. She’s been very weak and hasn’t been able to eat much lately so seeing her hungry today was a gift.
My in-laws/ family in GVL have been amazing… watching Stella, stocking us with food and even found us a chainsaw / fuel.
Special thanks to Jason Bonham (Uncle Jason) and Jennifer Gros (Auntie Jen) and CT friends for sending funds for fuel and food. We should have space ready soon to house some relief workers / supplies.
Reception here has been awful. Most of the time my phone reads “SOS” and I can’t even text.
My friends have been meeting face to face everyday at 9am in front of their house so we can all share necessary info and hear about needs etc. … community has taken on a whole new meaning. Grateful.
We are physically closer to Madison, Yancey and Mitchell counties so if you know of a need, please reach out directly.

Just a quick highlight about loyalty and risk to close…
My friend Matt Wolfe is a local physical therapist and travel agent. (High Park Travel Agency)
Just after the storm settled, the roads were a wreck and there was no means of communication between folks here. Matt and his wife Carol, drove to our house 15 miles away to check on us and the girls. They left us batteries, headlamps, food and water and a note to come for power and WiFi if we needed a respite. It was a great reminder to me that friendship takes risk and time. Even when we’re tired and out of sorts we can exercise some loyalty to our highest values and share the risk of friendship.
My encouragement is always to exercise your highest values to your closest targets and most of us dont have to go 15 miles to do that.
