As you probably have heard there is the possibility of a major winter storm impacting our area this weekend. Snow and ice may look beautiful, but they can be dangerous if you’re not prepared. Here are some simple ways to stay safe during a winter storm:

At Home
• Keep faucets dripping to prevent frozen pipes
• Set your thermostat to a steady temperature
• Have flashlights, batteries, and a backup heat source ready
• Keep extra blankets, food, and water on hand

On the Road
• Avoid driving if possible-icy roads are unpredictable
• Keep an emergency kit in your car (blankets, water, snacks, jumper cables)
• Let someone know your travel plans

Power Outages
• Charge phones and devices ahead of time
• Use generators outdoors only
• Never use grills or propane heaters inside

Outside
• Walk carefully
• Wear shoes with good traction
• Watch for falling branches and power lines

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping you and your family safe. Stay warm, stay inside when you can, and enjoy the beauty of winter safely!

The theme for the 2025 DDA Christmas Parade will be "A Griswold Family Christmas Vacation". Dig out those millions of Christmas lights and call your Cousin Eddie! It's going to be great fun!
