Good morning fellow RC hobby enthusiasts, Friday January 10, 2025. Matt here, owner/manager of Wicked Pines RC Scale Model Club. This has been weighing on my mind for a couple months now, and we know word is getting around, so today we have made the tough decision to cancel our 2025 race events and the track will be closed to the public until further notice.

As many of you already know we received yet another letter from Wayland Township notifying us that even though we are a club they feel we are doing full on commercial activities and we are in violation of home based business zoning requirements, citing specifically outdoor activities, traffic, noise and waste. Our only remedy according to them is to appeal the zoning requirements for home based businesses to allow outdoor activities, then if allowed file and pay for special use permits for each event. In order to appeal the board to change the zoning it will cost $1600 application fee and they have the right to simply vote it down with nothing in return. We can't help but think their findings are construed because we have gone through considerable efforts to not only ensure the property and each event causes no obstruction to anyone or thing surrounding us but have ensured our immediate neighbors are in favor and undisturbed by our existence. I have to say our neighbors have been outstanding and we see them here watching at nearly every event. We can't thank them enough for their support.

Sadly this isn't something we can ignore or fight without significant funds to hire attorneys and pay other legal fees. We haven't decided yet weather or not it's worth investing more into fighting a loosing battle or picking up and moving everything to another location. There are major logistical and labor factors to contemplate. This track has been a dream of mine for quite a long time, our first full "season", as they quoted, was so amazing. I think we created a great family friendly racing atmosphere. I want to thank everyone who came out to race, spectate, help build and maintain our track so we could have a spot to come have some fun in the sun. We are NOT GIVING UP, I promise, this is simply a bump in the road. If anyone has an issue with this we suggest you take it up with Wayland Township at one of their bi-weekly township hall meetings or the phone number or email on the letter.

I appreciate everyone's understanding and will post up news as we go. Onto some happy news my wife and I are about to have our first child and we are looking forward to that! My little girl is gonna be out here whippin up on all you fast guys before you know it!!

Thanks again everyone and happy new year.

Well that's a wrap on the 2024 season! What an awesome season it was! I can't thank enough all our boys and girls that came out all summer and battled it out on the clay. Overall we saw some fantastic, close, hard fought racing. Thanks everyone for staying level headed and being good sportsman's to fellow competitors. We learned a lot as track owners and sincerely appreciate all the feedback, support and good vibes. Good things to come next season.

It's going to be a long winter, sure to run into some of you on the carpet but we are already working on next year. Stay tuned for the 2025 schedule to be posted soon. Start rallying your friends to come out next year!

Congrats to our winners and podium finishers at our final club race today! We started off in a dense fog but that lifted early and it was a super nice day. Our watering schedule kept the surface grippy and dust was very minimal. We will use this going forward but will find ways to streamline the process.

Thanks again to all our racers that made it out today and the ones who couldn't! Also huge thanks to my crew and all the volunteers who lent a hand its greatly appreciated! See you all next year!

Come on out this Saturday for some fun in the sun at the Pines! Regular club race on the schedule for the day, 2 heats and a main, 8th and 10th scale, electric and nitro. Only one more scheduled race after this on September 21st so let's get those laps in while we can. Also for the last race we are trying to come up with some fun end of the year awards for you hard-core club racers in appreciation for coming out all season so stay tuned for that!

Racer side note... this season we are still learning the best ways to prep our dirt so we have been trying various things in our prep routine from race to race with mixed results. The goal was to get it to groove up but a combination of weather and not enough time to devote to dirt work it never got as grooved as we hoped it would. Grip is good and racing is as well but the dust gets to be too much at times and blowing between rounds sucks for everyone. That said we will be changing to a more damp style surface for the final 2 rounds. The goal is to keep consistant moisture in the surface throughout the day and keep dust to a minimum. In order to do that we will be dictating a watering schedule in the program and that will be posted along with the heat boards in the morning. We will never water between races of the same class only different classes. It should only take 5-10min each water break. Thanks everyone for understanding and for your input over the season.

Huge thanks to everyone that came out for the Tri-State 1/8 Scale Off Road Series race today it was an absolute blast! We had our largest turnout to date at 131 entries and ran 4,497 laps! To say the least the track surface is tired but we never gave up trying to give the best track we possibly could. I sincerely appreciate all the compliments, comments, critiques, good vibes, comradery and competition. Everyone was really throwing it down fighting for those awesome trophies so well done to all our winners and podium finishers! See you at Sandpit RC for the final round next month!
