Employee Spotlight: Mike Martin

If you’ve had tires done at Pete’s, there’s a good chance Mike Martin had something to do with them.

Mike has been in the tire business for 30 years and has spent the last 14 of those years here at Pete’s. Tires are his specialty, and after three decades, it’s safe to say he knows his way around them.

Mike’s history with Pete goes back even further. He’s known Pete for about 30 years, and one of his first jobs was actually working for Pete all those years ago. Pete’s uncle Gary, who still works here today, helped teach Mike the trade.

When we asked Mike what has kept him around, his answer was pretty simple.

“Pete’s always done me good.”

Outside of work, Mike is dad to two kids, ages 13 and 14.

We’re grateful to have someone with Mike’s experience and history as part of the Pete’s Automotive crew.

We’re pretty big dog people around here, and we know plenty of our customers are too.

Pete and Candice have spent a lot of years at Pete’s Automotive. Apparently that was enough to finally unlock their video game characters. 😂

The real version involves fewer gold coins and a whole lot more cars.

You may have heard of “girl dinner,” but this is giving more “guy dinner.”

Or, as we call it at the shop, Pete’s Smorgasbord. A bunch of random dishes that probably have no business sharing the same table, but somehow it works.

Fish sticks, taquitos, fries, meatballs, chips. We’re not sure what the overarching theme was for Thursday’s free team lunch, but the crew didn’t seem too concerned about it.

Sometimes the theme is just food. 😅

We’re grateful for such a good team and for the chance to sit down together, eat well, and enjoy each other’s company during the week.

Nominations for Best of Ellis County are open August 15 through August 30, and we would genuinely love to make it to the second round.

Why does it matter so much to us?

Pete’s Automotive is a local, family run shop. We come to work every day knowing that when someone hands us their keys, they are trusting us with more than a vehicle. That car gets someone to work, gets kids to school, makes family trips possible, and keeps everyday life moving.

We’ve worked hard to build a shop where people can expect honest answers, quality work, clear communication, and mechanics who are willing to help each other get the job done right. Having our community nominate us would mean that effort is being felt on the other side of the counter.

And that would mean a whole lot to our team.

Here’s one for the shop:

I think the mechanic at my local garage has amnesia.

I took my car in for a new light bulb, and the mechanic asked me what year it was.

Rolling out the next automotive hero in our action figure series: Matt Pesina. 🔧🎣

Matt has been with Pete’s for 2 years and brings about 12 years of automotive experience with him, including 5 to 7 years working with diesel. His background also includes general automotive repair and powersports like ATVs and side by sides.

Before coming to Pete’s, Matt worked for dealership automotive shops. These days, he prefers working for an independent shop like Pete’s.

One of his favorite things about being here is the environment. He says everyone is quick to help each other, there’s less stress, and there’s a lot more positivity. He also likes seeing the amount of work coming through the shop.

“It’s a good feeling coming to work now.”

Outside of work, Matt enjoys maintaining his house and yard, hanging out with his two sons, and bass fishing.

Naturally, his action figure had to come equipped with a fishing pole, a bass, home maintenance tools, and one of his favorite cars, a Ford Es**rt Cosworth.

We’re glad to have Matt as part of the Pete’s crew.
