“On paper”, TZR was incorporated in 2008. But in reality, it probably started the day I drilled some vent holes in my 79’ KE100 airbox. With the air filter still in place. That fuzzy yellow foam stuck to the drill bit didn’t stand a chance against a 3/8” cobalt 120 degree point bit. That filter had never been cleaned previously. So it was clogged. And my approach to more airflow , and more power was a resounding success. Temporarily at least. I learned how to replace pistons and rings shortly thereafter…The 2008 paperwork was just a formality really. The groundwork was set in place many years before in the garage at 815 Elm St., with a dream and a Craftsman drill. But what everyone needs to know, today, December 10th, 2025, is that even though I am the T of the TZR, my brother Scott is the Z. And today is his birthday. And on his birthday, I need everyone to wish him a Happy Birthday, and I want everyone to know that Scott has been with me, growing TZR, ever since he was literally in diapers , following me into the garage, some random tool in hand, muttering “go fixth…go fixth”. He had no clue what he was doing. I only knew just a little more. But he figured out that you could lose a screwdriver into a KX125 silencer as good as any 2 year old. Self taught stuff. And from those humble Team Huggies beginnings, to traveling the entire country racing with him, to him now running the TZR North shop in Woodstock Illinois, continuing to grow both the business, and himself, earning the trust and respect of thousands of friends and customers along the way, I want to say what a proud brother I am today. What we’ve conquered, accomplished, failed at, but then fixed, what we’ve seen and experienced together , immersed in our dirt bike world, are memories of a lifetime. It’s exactly what a blessed life is supposed to be all about. And Scott has been my ride-or-die every step of the way. Happy Birthday big little brother. I love you beyond words. Proud of you beyond words. Thank you for every memory made, and every new one yet to craft. I’m looking forward to them. ’n

Ahhhh….. autumn. The season of change. Letting go of the old, to make the room for new growth. TZR is embracing that spirit of the season, and moving to a newer, better location. An opportunity arose that we could not pass up, and we had to jump on it without any hesitation. A newer , nicer building and location, right in between the two other locations we’ve been at these last 18 years. TZR officially started in our Algonquin Illinois garage. And we outgrew that within just months. A Lake in the Hills location from 2008 thru 2021. Then to our location in Wauconda from 2021 until now. Expanding into a Florida location as well, and now moving to Woodstock Illinois. Closer to our homes. And this location also boasts a test track for us to more thoroughly test, break in, and diagnose our customers bikes, while not destroying the tires on pavement. A huge plus in this field of work. This opportunity literally fell into our lap virtually unannounced, so we have not been able to get any word out until now. We’ve been blessed to have called this passion of dirt bikes our living for so many years now. Making thousands of friends and customers along the way. And it’s our pleasure to continue all the services going forward for you all. So please take note, and spread the word! TZR North now at 14201 Washington St, Unit 304, Woodstock Illinois. 60098. Same phone number and email as always. 224-241-8580 or [email protected]. And then TZR South located at WW Ranch with Club 57 at 1439 Otis Rd, Jacksonville Florida, 32220. 847-977-8971. We’ll post more pics as we get moved in. Moving a complete shop and all those parts, bikes, and shop equipment is a real task. Special thanks to all of our great friends that always step up with manpower and enthusiasm to get it all moved in just a few days. We will of course be exceptionally busy these next few weeks getting completely set up and moved in. But for the most part, we are completely open for business right now. Thanks to everyone for the many years of friendship and support. We are excited for this new chapter to begin.

Fancy pants stuff. YZF250 SX build. Stiff. But not too stiff. Teasing out that perfect balance of firm control, but balanced with just enough compliance to still be comfortable and find traction. Lots of unique and specialized parts go into legit pro level SX suspension. Restrictive spring perches, different pressure springs, different main springs, one-way check valves, and extremely stiff shim stacks to name a few. But every part contributing to the massive work load that a true SX track requires. The video is of the shock oil being drained prior to this build. To show the contamination / aeration of the oil by the nitrogen. Is your shock oil contaminated with nitrogen gas? Yes. It is. Unless it was very recently assembled. Even with a vacuum bleed device to fill a shock, it’s a guarantee that some of that nitrogen gas will leak thru the rubber bladder, and into the oil. Even if the bike is not being ridden. The rubber bladder will not completely contain the nitrogen within it. Just like your tire innertubes will not hold your 12psi for long either. Some shocks use a solid piston to separate the nitrogen from the oil (WP). And that is a longer lasting design. But it creates a bit more friction and heat than a bladder. So as with most ideas, there are pro’s and con’s to both designs. But the gas-contaminated oil is one reason the shock will feel different over time. Coupled with the oil breaking down from extreme heat, and normal wear and fatigue of the working parts, professional level SX suspension does not last very long before becoming noticeably softer. But anyone with a bladder style shock still needs to consider regular rebuilds if you want that new shock feeling all the time. Piston separator shocks too, but they typically will feel better longer, because they don’t suffer from this nitrogen contamination issue. Now you know.

Lots to think about today. So much has happened. So much is still happening. Linking the past to the present and future is a mental exercise that can consume you. But today, I’m celebrating some of my two best lifelong friends. My true ride-or-dies. Today is Brad’s birthday. Cody’s was a few days ago. (The Bears lost on Cody’s birthday, and I needed to wait for him to recover , so that he could appreciate this now, a few days later. We’ll get em’ next week Har. Or next year. Same same) I met Brad back in 1990. We became best friends almost immediately. We’ve traveled and conquered the country racing dirtbikes together. I can identify his fart in a mosh pit. He can identify mine. The time and memories I have shared with him have literally shaped my life. And after all these years, life comes full circle and I find myself back together with him, working as TZR South with his Club 57 at WW Ranch in Jacksonville. One day, I will need to write a book, sharing the stories that he and I have written, and are still writing together. It will be epic. I think I met Cody in the late 90’s. When his dad would have me work on his bikes as he was just beginning to race. Cody talked me into to hiring him at TZR in around 2018. I was afraid he was gonna eat all my food. (Proof posted above) But he convinced me I could always buy more food. But not another ride-or-die employee like him. And he was right. And I’ll happily go hungry, as long as Cody is part of my team. And now my family. Both these guys are family to me. To the end of the world. Which might be soon. So today I gotta make sure they are both celebrated. Thank you both for the memories. The friendships. For always being there for me. For being the best sons, brothers, fathers and friends that America could ever have hoped to raise.

Mid August photo dump-update. Still alive. Still working on dirt bikes , perfecting my avocado toast, and my one-legged goblet squats. Typical August stuff. Hoping September is still at least half a month away. But time flies when you put a TZR sticker on it….

It’s payday. All that hard work. All that effort. All those previous setbacks. Today is a day to get paid. Not with money. But with pride. Happy tears. High fives and hugs. Both these TZR kids showed up, punched in every day, did the work, and now they both get to say they led laps at Loretta Lynn’s, and finished on the podium in a moto. Everyone wants to be under the top 10 tents after the finish line. Even better to be top 3. Super proud of these kids, and their families for all the love and support they give. One day, they will be working for a paycheck at a “real” job. But NOTHING is worth more than these real memories. Still lots of racing to go. But I might have to forget some things to make room for these new great stories unfolding this week. And I’m quite ok with that.

We will be closed at 2:00 PM Thursday 7/31, and all of Friday 8/1.
