⚠️ JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE OWNS A ROLLBACK OR WRECKER DOESN’T MEAN THEY’RE A LEGITIMATE TOWING COMPANY. ⚠️
Facebook yard-sale pages are full of comments like, “I got a guy,” or, “My buddy has a rollback.”
Cool. My buddy has a ladder—does that make him a roofing company?
Owning a truck does not automatically mean someone is legal, insured, qualified, background checked and properly set up to haul your vehicle for money.
Before handing the keys to a vehicle worth thousands of dollars to “a guy from Facebook,” ask a few basic questions:
• Do they have the proper for-hire registration and tags to transport vehicles for compensation?
• Do they carry actual commercial towing insurance—not just a personal auto policy and confidence?
• Is the business properly registered and legally operating?
• Is the equipment maintained, inspected, and insured?
• If they damage your vehicle, who is paying for it—because “bro, I’m sorry” will not fix your car.
There is a huge difference between owning a rollback and operating a legitimate towing business.
Real towing companies invest serious money into commercial insurance, registration, licensing, compliance, maintenance, equipment, training, and everything else required to operate professionally.
But sure—save $25 or $50 with the cheapest person in the Facebook comments. Just don’t be shocked when your vehicle gets damaged and suddenly nobody answers the phone, the Facebook profile disappears, and “my buddy” turns into “I don’t really know him like that.”
💡 Know who you’re handing your keys to.
Support legitimate local towing companies that invest in doing things the right way—not just the person with a rollback, a Facebook profile, and a dream.

Given we are in transportation, there are a few industry-specific red flags that sometimes show up at truck stops, travel centers, or roadside situations:

• Passenger who is unusually quiet, fearful, or won’t speak for themselves while the other person dominates conversation and answers everything.
• Person who doesn’t know where they’re going, what city they’re in, or seems confused about basic travel details while another person controls their phone/ID.
• Someone trying to work off a “debt” or talking about “owing” a boyfriend/boss money and not being allowed to leave.

Common patterns include controlling, isolating, and exploiting someone’s movement, money, communication, and sexuality, often with fear, threats, or manipulation behind the scenes.

What to do if you suspect it
• If someone seems in immediate danger: call 911.
• If it’s not clearly an emergency but feels off, in the U.S. you can contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1‑888‑373‑7888 or text “HELP” or “INFO” to 233733 (BEFREE).
• Do not confront the suspected trafficker yourself; note details (vehicle, plates, location, time, descriptions) and report.
