Happy Killdozer Day - A Lesson in Bureaucratic Overreach (and Proper Cooling Systems)
On June 4, 2004, Marvin Heemeyer took drastic action after years of being ignored by local officials. A skilled welder and business owner in Granby, Colorado, Heemeyer fought against unfair zoning decisions and fines that threatened his livelihood. When every legal option was exhausted, he turned to an alternative solution: secretly armoring a Komatsu D355A bulldozer, sealing himself inside and bringing destruction to 13 business and government buildings tied to those who had wronged him, including City Hall.
But even the best-laid plans have weak points. The Killdozer was a mechanical marvel, reinforced with bulletproof concrete and steel plating... but its fatal flaw? A compromised cooling system. As the rampage continued, the machine overheated, lost power, and Heemeyer found himself stuck, his unstoppable force suddenly very stoppable. In the end, it wasn’t law enforcement that ended the rampage. It was mechanical overlook and physics.
The Killdozer incident is a lesson in unchecked bureaucracy, government overreach, and, most importantly, why you should never neglect your cooling system.
Here at Fiegel’s Fix-It, we stand for the little guy. And while we definitely can't endorse urban armor warfare for legal reasons, we do know a thing or two about keeping your machinery bullet-proof and running at peak performance. Radiator issues? Overheating problems? Don’t let an insufficient cooling system be your downfall. Give us a call before your engine (or your patience) boils over.
