After the amazing amount of support we received during last year's 9/11 Memorial Ruck, we have decided to open this event to the public this year. To avoid interfering with the Walters Blue Devil Football game that evening, we will begin our ruck/walk that morning at 8:30 am. This time should give those with younger children a chance to get them dropped off at school.

The 9.11 mile ruck/walk will start and end at the Walters VFD located at 129 E. Colorado. That route will take us down main street to Sultan Park, where we will make multiple laps, then back to the FD. We will also have signs in place at Sultan Park for 3.43 and 1 mile routes. Both of those routes will start and end in the park. We will have multiple hydration stations around the track at Sultan Park as well.

This will be a time for us to remember and honor those who responded to the call that terrible day. A total of 441 First Responders lost their lives that day, with 343 of those being firefighters. This year will mark the 25th anniversary and we hope to do our part in paying homage to them. We have been looking forward to this event all year, and hope to see you there.

Cotton County has been placed in a Burn Ban effective immediately.

🔥 COTTON COUNTY BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥

The Cotton County Board of County Commissioners has issued a county-wide burn ban effective August 10, 2026, due to dry and hazardous fire conditions.

🚫 Outdoor burning, campfires, bonfires, and fireworks are prohibited. Certain cooking, welding, road construction, agricultural, and prescribed-burning activities are allowed only under the conditions outlined in the resolution.

The burn ban may remain in effect for up to 14 days and will be reviewed based on fire conditions.

Please take this seriously. Our fire departments have already responded to numerous fires under extreme heat and dry conditions. Help us prevent the next one. 🔥🚒
