$2,600 Repair That Should Cost $800
*
Andrei here with Main Street Auto EV in Downtown Walnut Creek, serving Contra Costa County and San Francisco Bay Area. We examine a Jaguar with a torn crank pulley rubber that’s causing charging and power steering issues. We discuss how what should be a simple $800 repair turns into a $2,600 job because you have to remove the valve cover, install timing tools on the camshafts, pull the starter, block the flywheel, and use additional tools to camshatts, pull the starter, block the flywheel, and use additional tools to hold the crankshaft in place. This incredibly poor design requires taking apart half the car for a repair that should be straightforward
