The final piece for the pink ECU has arrived! 🩷

This build was about more than just making an ECU look good. The client sent me a grainy photo of an old “La Vaca Sound” logo from his former music business that held a lot of sentimental value. We recreated the logo for the ECU and even made him some extra decals to keep.

Then we gave the ECU the full VIP treatment:
• Custom pink solid-state capacitors
• IC17 upgrade
• high-gloss coating with pink flakes added
• Custom-painted pink case
• Boost control
• Snake OBD1 EMU
• Set up for the Snake Mini Dizzy COP kit

At The ECU Guy, the goal is to bring your vision to life while giving the electronics underneath the same level of attention — professional soldering, proper upgrades, and reliability built to last.

If you can dream up the ECU, bring me the idea. We’ll make it real. 🔧✨

✨ The DIY Glow Kits are officially available! — $85

Right on time for Halloween! 👻

DM me to order or for any questions.

What’s included?
• Special Edition IC17 with built-in UV blacklight for the glow effect
• 3 vials of glow paint
• 1 transparent top ECU cover
• 2 reflective mirror strips for the sides of the case to help scatter the UV light and improve the overall glow effect
• 1 “Glow Edition” sticker

Only 3 kits are available right now, so grab one while supplies last!

I’m testing the waters with this project for now. If there’s enough demand, future kits may include even more unique options — possibly even a glowing 3D-printed outer ECU case! 👀

✨ FREE ECU APPRAISALS! ✨

Ever wondered what your Honda ECU is actually worth?

Let's have some fun today. Drop some pictures of your ECU in the comments and I'll give you my best estimate of its current market value — for free.

📸 For the best appraisal, post:
• A picture of the ECU/label
• The top of the board with the cover removed
• The bottom of the board, if possible
• Any known modifications or problems

I'll break it down into a few different values:

🔹 Private-sale / Marketplace value
🔹 Estimated eBay value
🔹 Potential value professionally refurbished

And yes — those numbers can be VERY different.

For example, an ECU selling for $500 on eBay doesn't necessarily mean it's worth $500 in a private sale. Platforms like eBay charge substantial seller fees, so sellers often have to price higher to end up with the same amount in their pocket.

Condition matters too. Original boards, capacitor leakage, corrosion, damaged traces, previous socketing work, modifications, rare ECU codes and even the quality of previous repairs can all affect what an ECU is realistically worth.

I'll give you the same kind of assessment I'd want if it were my money buying the ECU.

👇 Start dropping those ECUs in the comments!

Appraisals are estimates based on photos, visible condition and current market knowledge. Actual value can vary depending on functionality, internal damage, modifications and the eventual buyer.

“The moment you said you were faster was the moment I knew I’d already won the race.”

Being fast and being good at what you do are two very different things.

Could I move faster? Absolutely.

But speed has never been the goal. Anybody can rush through jobs to pump up the numbers. I’d rather slow down, pay attention to the details, double-check my work, and put out something I’m genuinely proud to put my name on.

There will always be somebody willing to do it faster. Let them.

Quality over quantity. Every time.

Just wanted to clear up a little confusion about the services we offer here at The ECU Guy.

While we specialize in ECU repair, refurbishment, upgrades, and electronics, we do not perform full vehicle tuning in-house.

That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with sending someone our way who needs a tune!

Over the years, we've built relationships with some extremely talented people throughout the industry, including tuners, harness builders, fabricators, and other specialists. If your build needs something outside of what we personally handle, there's a good chance we know someone who does it very well.

When it comes to tuning specifically, we know several highly qualified tuners and can help connect you with the right person for your particular setup. Not every build needs the same tuner, so we take things like your location, budget, build level, ECU/setup, and overall goals into consideration when making a recommendation.

That's part of what I want The ECU Guy to be — a one-stop connection point for your build. We may not personally perform every service under this roof, but we have industry contacts and affiliates who can help take care of the things we don't.

So if someone tells you, "Talk to The ECU Guy about getting your car tuned," they aren't necessarily mistaken. Send us a message, tell us what you're working with, and we'll help point you in the right direction.

Our goal isn't just to sell you an ECU or repair a board. It's to help you get the whole project across the finish line. 🤝

K-Series Heading Home!

This one came in with blown components and is now repaired, fully refurbished, and ready to get back to work. 😎

The transparent lid makes it tough for the camera to capture the beautiful shine on this one, but you can bet it received our signature glassy finish. ✨

It’s one of those finishes you really have to see in person to fully appreciate—the camera just never does it justice!

🔧 Why replace the capacitors in your K-Series ECU?

Have a K-Series ECU that keeps damaging components, developing strange electrical issues, or seems perfectly fine—but has 20+ years of service behind it?

This ECU is a great example of why capacitor replacement isn't just an OBD1 thing.

Unlike the older P28-era ECUs, modern surface-mount electrolytic capacitors generally aren't known for dumping electrolyte all over the board. But leakage is only one way a capacitor can fail.

Electrolytic capacitors have a finite service life. As they age, their capacitance can drift and their ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) can increase significantly. The capacitors in this K-Series ECU tested with extremely poor resistance/ESR characteristics.

The tricky part is that this type of failure can be much quieter than the classic leaking OBD1 capacitor. Instead of an obvious mess on the board, an aging capacitor can contribute to unstable power rails, increased ripple, additional stress on surrounding components, intermittent problems, and—in severe cases—component or trace damage.

That's why preventative refurbishment can be worthwhile even when the capacitors still look perfectly fine.

K-Series ECU services are also available here at The ECU Guy, including complete refurbishment, KPro installation, board swaps, diagnostics, and repair. Whether you're dealing with an existing problem or simply want to give an aging ECU some preventative attention, we've got you covered.

Sometimes the best time to repair an ECU is before it gives you a reason to. 🔧
