Loup Garou Trail Run

Quick question for you guys who are signed up for this year's Loup Garou Trail Run and those who are planning to sign up - if this is your first year attempting a new distance, what inspired you to take this leap of faith? And what are you using to stay motivated during these LONG summer months?

If you are looking for a reason to avoid work today (like me), here's a recap of my third 100 miler - my first sub 24 hour finish - for your entertainment. Rarely does progress look like a straight line.

Many of you know Mike Smith. He is one of the guys competing to be the person with the most 100 mile finishes ... in the world. This picture is from when Mike finished the very first Loup Garou Trail Run in 2017. If all goes as planned, this year's race will be his 10th 100 miler at Loup Garou and his 260th 100 miler overall.

Two Hundred and Sixty One Hundred Mile Races. AMAZING!

When you are on the course this year and you see Mike, take a minute to visit with him. He is the nicest person you could meet - likely because he is too tired to be anything else. He will be working towards his 1,000 mile jacket and his 10th finish at this race, so show him a little love when you see him.

Current Loup Garou numbers:

27 states represented as well as Calgary, Alberta

We have runners starting in their 20's up to those in their 70's participating. (This is the coolest part of running!)

The 20 and 40 miler are dominated by women with more men registered for the 60 and 100 miler. It will be interested to see how this changes over the next few months.

Let's take a minute to talk about this amazing lady. Not only is she an incredible runner, she will run these distances and speeds with a smile on her face the whole time. We can't wait to cheer for her at this year's Loup Garou! Bethany Madson

Our Showdown runners are picking up! In case you missed it, for the final year of Loup Garou anyone who has placed first at any of the distances over the years is invited back with a free entry to settle once and for all who the best is at each distance.

If you know someone here who has not signed up yet, tag them so they can join in on the fun!

If you did sign up and I missed adding it to the spreadsheet, shoot me a message so I can fix it, please.

One more month until the cutoff to be guaranteed one of the special edition “10 Years of Loup Garou” medals or buckles.

As you may have figured out, there will be a new race on the same course in 2027, Feu Follet Trail Run. More details on that coming soon, when their race crew is ready to share, but Loup Garou as you know it is ending this year with a new group of great folks starting a new event in 2027.

Our Loup Garou volunteers are looking forward to retiring after this years race and are making plans to make this last race the best one EVER!

With this being the final year for Loup Garou, it is important to us that we do something special to reward you guys for 10 years of support. We thought the best way to do this would be by creating a unique 10 Year Anniversary design for our buckles and medals, and I think they came out pretty incredible!

In the past, I didn't mind over-ordering medals and buckles because I could reuse them the following year. Clearly that is not an option with these, so we will have to place an order on September 1st to guarantee on time delivery and we will have to know approximate quantities. I will order extra of each distance, but not as many as I have in the past.

EVERYONE will receive a medal or buckle when they finish, but only the folks who register before September 1st will be guaranteed the 10th anniversary edition. The folks who sign up later will either receive this one or our traditional version.

I am sure you guys can understand that we do not want to be stuck with extra medals and buckles for a race that no longer exists after this year.

All of that to say that if you know of someone who really wants this special edition buckle, remind them to sign up before September 1st.

Thank you for understanding and for making this race a memory that will live on in Louisiana trail running.

EDIT: I forgot to add Louisiana and we have our first Mississippi runner, so make that 22 states.

You will have great company on the trail this year! We are already at 20 states represented along with Calgary, Alberta. We are all looking forward to celebrating the 10th and final year of this amazing event with you guys!
