​​​​Since going to diesel tech school in 1982, Kenneth Garber has never strayed very far from the end of a wrench. In 1997, Garber Diesel service was born and Ken began doing diesel engine repairs on a part-time basis in front of his personal 2 car garage. In 2002, he renovated another building on his property into a 4 bay shop and dedicated all his time to diesels and also began expanding into medium and heavy truck maintenance and repairs. In 2003 Ken recognized the need for a quality lubricant and learned of Archer Lubricants. In 2012, his son Melvin joined the business and made the 4th member to the crew. As the business expanded, they began looking at options to increase their capacity. In 2012, Garber Diesel added an oil warehouse to their facility and became the distribution point for all the Archer dealers in Missouri. In 2013, Garber Diesel began a joint project with Archer Lubricants to develop and test an oil for use in biogas engine applications at a feedlot in Triplett, Missouri. Following 2 years of proven results, the team at Garber Diesel is now working with several landfills to continue testing and proving Archer Natural Gas Engine Oil. In the beginning of 2015, they relocated to a 10 bay shop with great highway frontage. After the move, they noticed immediately increase in business and expanded their team to 2 full-time service writers and 5 full time techs.

Sometimes an engine isn’t repairable. It’s replaceable.

When internal engine damage reaches a certain point, continuing to repair individual components may not be the right solution. That’s when a complete engine replacement can make more sense.

This Ram is in the Garber Diesel Service shop for major engine work. Jobs like this go well beyond swapping a few parts. The engine has to be removed, components inspected, the replacement properly installed, and everything put back together correctly before the truck goes back to work.

After an accident, taking care of the vehicle is only part of the job. Taking care of the people matters too.

Sometimes the best service starts before anyone even makes a call.

Erehn shared this story about a flat tire on the highway. Dustin happened to be passing by, stopped to help, and offered to get them down the road to the tire shop.

Modern trucks require modern diagnostics.

This Renegade Veracruz is built on a Ford Super Duty platform with complex electronic systems that can’t always be diagnosed with a basic code reader.

At Garber Diesel Service, we use an oscilloscope when the job calls for it. Instead of simply reading a fault code, an oscilloscope lets the technician see electrical signals as they’re happening. That helps trace an electrical or communication problem back to its actual source.

Codes can point you in a direction. The right diagnostic process helps determine why the code is there.

For today’s diesel trucks, motorhomes, and electronically controlled equipment, accurate diagnostics can mean the difference between finding the problem and simply replacing parts hoping the problem goes away.

When heavy equipment gets stuck, a standard tow isn’t always going to get the job done.

This Schramm drilling rig found itself sunk into soft ground, turning a bad situation into a heavy recovery job.
