Josh Harris (owner and mechanic) has had a love for anything with wheels since before he could walk. He put thousands of miles on an old riding mower in the back yard "driving" (sitting on it and making noises) all over the place as soon as he was old enough to walk. By the time he was 5 he was tearing up the streets of Emory on his Huffy. He drove tractors with his granddad and Uncle David as soo
n as he was tall enough to reach the pedals. As a kid, his dad would let Josh sit in his lap and steer the car. When he was 11, he got his first set of wheels of his own in the form of a go kart. All of this led to a real love for all sorts of vehicles. He has also always had a love for building things and figuring out how things work. His love for creating things was very evident in his love of building things out of his Legos. He would play for hours creating things (mostly cars :D) and playing with them then taking them apart and starting all over again. His mother will testify that figuring out how things worked and were put together was also another thing he often did. Many toys fell victim to his curiosity. They would get taken apart, but unfortunately, they didn't always get put back together. Most of the stuff that fell victim was already broken but not always. His mechanical aptitude comes from years of watching and helping his father work on cars and trucks since he was old enough to walk to the tool box to grab a wrench or screwdriver. His father (who's father was a mechanic) taught him more than anyone could say. He also learned a lot from his granddad and uncles. After he got his driver's license and his own vehicles, he slowly started doing mechanic work on his own vehicles, and as his experience grew, his abilities were put to use on the vehicles of friends and families. For the past 4 years he has worked as a mechanic for a diesel performance shop where he gained valuable experience on many different diesel pickups and attained his ASE certification in Light Vehicle Diesel Engines and also in Automatic Transmission/Transaxles. While he worked there, the work he performed ranged from basic maintenance and mechanic work such as fuel filter changes and replacing injectors all the way to custom performance work such as building transmissions and custom fabricating compound twin turbo systems. All of this together created a person with the skill and passion to do practically anything on a vehicle. Josh takes a tremendous amount of pride in his work, and knows that when he completes a job, he is signing his name to it. He will do whatever he can to make sure every job is done right with no corners cut. Whether it is changing an alternator or building a high performance motor, you can trust that the job will not be taken lightly. You will get the same high level of attention to detail no matter what job you need to be done. With the help of his dad (Paul Harris) he was able to secure a shop space of his own, fill it with tools and equipment, and open a business of his own. Top Notch Garage officially opened it's doors as a full time business on June 5th, 2013. We look forward to growing the business and creating a relationship with our customers that is based on mutual trust and respect.
