Pass It On! Cars aren't much different than people - they don't care much for extreme cold. Here are a couple tips that you should know in conditions like this:

1. Beware of old batteries. Typical battery life is 3-5 yrs. If your battery is over 5 yrs old you should consider changing it BEFORE it leaves you stranded. This extreme cold can zap the life right out of an old battery. We've helped MANY customers in the past few days who encountered this exact problem.
2. Fill your fluids. The coolant/antifreeze needs to be full and in good condition. In our area we need coolant that tests to -25 degrees. Coolant/antifreeze flushes done per the manufactures recommendations for your vehicle will keep you in good condition. Make sure you have a full bottle of windshield washer solvent for driving in sloppy road conditions.
3. Check your tires. Tires tend to lose about 1 lb of pressure for every 10 degree drop in temperature. When we go from 30 to -10 that is a lot of change. Make sure your tires are set to the proper pressure. Your drivers door will have a placard showing the correct PSI for your vehicle. Also, make sure your tires have enough tread for driving in winter conditions.
4. Wipers. Make sure your wipers are in good condition. Consider winter wiper blades or beam blades. These blades resist ice buildup.
