Good evening everyone.

Sorry for the flurry of posts but I want to put this issue to bed.

While mistakes were made this weekend, we are all human and sometimes “it” just happens.

Add to this the fact that while I’m smiling and keep a positive outlook…I’m drained and a bit punchy. (I’ve been avoiding the office not only because my immunity is down but my lovely wife has been letting me know I’m not my normal jovial self)

So for my part I took offense to something and went public. In hindsight I should have taken a breath and sat on it.

I’m not perfect.

I’m willing to take things at face value and let it go. I appreciate so many of you for having my back…but I’m letting it go and ask you do as well. We all can use a second chance

Love to all,

Dave.

Ok. Enough drama for a month.

Many of you are asking about me and I apologize but adding everyone to my friends list, while I truly appreciate your concern, just isn’t practical for me.

So I will use the business page to keep you updated for now.

Treatment has been going well. Two weeks since the first round of chemo and one week til the second, and hopefully last!

I know immunity is down for me…but we are still going out and living life. Took a vacation with the kids and the granddaughter…and other than being really tired it went well.

Today as I washed my face I noticed a LOT of whiskers stuck to my towel! Yes, it’s happening. lol

My wife asked if I was scared about losing my hair…I told her I was only scared that everything would fall out EXCEPT the ear hair. 😉

Thanks for all the love and support! I’m guessing round two will zap me a bit more so I may be quiet for a bit…but I’m still fighting.

Dave

Another fun day at the animal auction yesterday! Thanks to Amy Oney for the series of pics! While we were outbid on Ellis’ hog he still stopped by for our annual photo. Had to leave before I could grab a pic with Cameron Maher but we did catch a pic with Miss Savannah.

Good afternoon everyone!

I’ve been out quite a bit and since I posted my health journey many of you have been checking in and asking how I’m doing. I know my team is protective of me so unless I’ve run into you on one of my visits there…it’s been hard to get info.

So forgive me but I’m going to give a long update here. (I know you aren’t surprised I can get very wordy so here is your warning to stop reading. Lol)

As most know last year I had a lump on my upper thigh that was originally diagnosed as swelling from a strain. Unfortunately it kept getting larger and after much fighting with insurance we finally got the tests we needed and confirmed our fears…the mass was malignant and even worse was a rare and aggressive sarcoma.

The technical name is undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma. Yeah…leave it to me to get something rare.

This is a fast-moving cancer that likes to come back. Many of you offered all sorts of treatments and I spent a good amount of time going down rabbit holes looking into them…but ultimately my family and I decided to stick with the medical team we had at UCSD and move forward. You see…by the time we had a diagnosis this thing was large and growing exponentially. What started as a golf ball sized bump when we realized something wasn’t right…ballooned to the size of a cantaloupe by the time we got it out! We had no time to consider anything alternative. We needed it out. (Please, while I know you mean well…don’t offer any insights, theories or “proven cures”. It’s just exhausting and I need to save my energy.) ❤️

Anyway….i went through 25 days of radiation then had to recover from that before surgery. The rapid growth made surgery difficult and took a team of surgeons. One to remove it, my vascular surgeon to bypass veins and arteries that were too close to leave, and the plastics surgeon to reconstruct me.

The mass was 4.5 pounds and they had to remove all four quad muscles to get clear margins. After the vascular surgeon was done, the plastic surgeon cut me from my waist to my sternum to harvest ab muscles to fill the void left from the removal

So I woke up after an 8 hour surgery and learned I may need a walker going forward and almost for sure would be wearing a leg brace since I had no quads. I had a wound vac and drains all over and things were a bit blurry. Spent a week in the hospital and spent the next six weeks at home in wraps and a full leg brace since nothing could bend for 6 weeks.

My team at the station did a great job of handling everything for me so I could simply focus on healing. Well…God has been good to me and all the sutures healed quickly. Once I could take the full leg brace off and allow the knee to bend we got busy with PT. I had one drain that hung around for 12-14 weeks and a fluid pocket in my thigh that has required a couple of visits to drain. But for the last 8 weeks I’ve only been wearing compression wraps for fluid buildup but no leg brace. I was spending time at the station between appointments and getting back to my new normal.

Then I had my first post op scans and unfortunately have developed a nodule in one lung. They gave me the option of waiting for the next quarterly scan to see if grew or having a lung biopsy to find out now.

We chose now.

Last Friday we got the biopsy results and unfortunately it is the same cancer that has spread. So if it’s in one spot I have to assume there is a very real possibility it can be waiting to pop up in other places as well. We have options. We have more scans on Monday…and depending on what they show, we have made the difficult choice to go hard as soon as we can with chemo. The tumor responded well to radiation so we considered that for this one too…but time isn’t on our side as we learned the first time.

So unfortunately this means more time away as treatment continues so I had to use this venue to update our customers since next week is filled with visits to prep us.

It means the world to me that so many care enough to check in. For those that pray we would love those. For those that don’t your support still means more than you can know.

While some accuse me of over sharing…my hope is if anyone is out there going through something similar know you are not alone!

❤️

It was a big weekend for part of our family!

Back in 2020 with the world upside down with the pandemic, we managed to open our Little Caesars Express. We were fortunate to have so many great kids come work for us and become part of our family.

One of the comments we kept getting was that our pizzas tasted better than any other Little Caesars location…

I always paused and told the customer that it was because we made our pizzas with love!❤️

Little did I know at the time…but it wasn’t just with the pizzas that love was happening…

You see…employee #10 had taken a fancy to employee #4! (He even used a pizza to ask her to prom!). You know…I just realized I never asked if he paid for that 🍕 ) 😉

Well lucky for him she said yes…and now their story has come full circle…just like a pepperoni pizza!

Abby and Ryan said their “I dos” yesterday and we couldn’t be happier for them!

Both of them have a special place in my heart and I’ve known them both before they worked for me. I met Ryan and his family when our whole village rallied around them…and if I’m not mistaken…I’m pretty sure I bought Abby’s pig at auction before she worked for me as well.

With all of our love…congratulations Mr and Mrs Latulippe!!!

Good morning everyone.

After spending a week in the hospital I see that wholesale fuel prices have jumped by 40 cents or more. (I guess there have been things happening in the world beyond my hospital room. 😉)

Anyways…hold on to your hats. It’s going to be a bumpy ride for the short term.

Dave

(Edit to add: some folks missed my point. I never said my surgery had anything to do with fuel prices. I was simply saying during my week in the hospital a lot had happened in the world I was unaware of in my bubble. Looking at emails today I realized the spike in wholesale prices so I was alerting my customers to coming spikes and also updating my condition…this was not meant to spark political debate. Plenty of forums for that)

Sorry for the late notice…but both the minimart and pizza will be closing early today. Tonight is our company Christmas Party and I don’t want anyone to miss out!

Pizza ovens off at 3:00
Doors closed at 3:30

Thank you!

Wishing all of our customers and friends a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend!

A reminder that both the minimart and pizza will be closed tomorrow to allow our team time with their families.

On a more personal note, as I am about to embark on treatment for cancer, I want you all to know I’m thankful for all of you that have been such a support to us all these years.

Hug your loved ones and tell them you love them!

We had so many people asking if we would get more Lego Minfigures in…I thought I would grab a few smaller items when I was at the Lego Store feeding my addiction this weekend. Some stuff for the kids or those of us that are still children at heart. Also a few items for your Lego Valentine. 💝

Edit to say…we are back!

Diesel pumps are operational again.

Good morning.

We know many of you have been frustrated with the intermittent issues with our diesel dispensers. We have been trying to fix it but because it is intermittent it was never faulting when the techs were here. We have spent thousands guessing at what part is failing with no luck

Well this morning it had completely failed. We now know the issues and should have it resolved this afternoon.

For now we have no diesel.
We apologize for any inconvenience

Dave
