Tip of the Day!
Avoid Band-aid repairs. They cost more money in the long run. We like your money, but we like our customers more, and this is how you will spend less with us.
Call as soon as there is an issue. Ignoring it just makes things worse and costs more in the long run.

This customer was actually sick in bed and was grateful he didn't have to worry about taking his car somewhere for the repair.
His wife gave us the keys while he was sleeping. He was still resting when we finished. We gave her the update when it was all fixed, and he didn't even know we had ever showed up.

This car struggled and sputtered and died in the driveway. It was low on oil, and one of the camshaft sprockets slipped out of time. That causes risk for internal engine damage, but this customer got lucky! Timing chain and guides were old and worn. We replaced them and put the engine back in time. Got everything put back together and the engine ran great!

Code scan vs. Diagnostic.
What is a diagnostic? Why do I have to pay for one? Why doesn't the price go toward the repair?
Whether your vehicle has a Check Engine Light on or not, a diagnostic can still be performed. A diagnostic involves performing research and testing to verify the source that is causing the negative symptoms of a vehicle's performance. It takes time, knowledge, expertise, tools, access to vehicle information through paid subscriptions, and more. Diagnostics are not free because we can't work for free, and a diagnostic tells the customer exactly what needs to be fixed or replaced to restore the vehicle to proper function.
This charge is often separate because of those reasons. Occasionally, the labor involved with the diagnostic performed may overlap with that of the repair, but it is not common. For example, to see the damage of a differential, the cover must be removed. It also has to be removed as part of the repair, so there might be some overlap. But if your suspension is making horrible clunking noises, diagnosing the problem will not have the same labor overlap as the repair, so it is a separate charge.
If you don't think you should pay for a diagnostic, then do the diagnostic yourself. If you don't know how, then understand that you are paying a trained professional to do it for you, as that is their profession and livelihood.
When a mechanic performs a diagnostic, they are also guaranteeing the suggested repair will fix the problem, and they will honor that, as well as offer a warranty on the parts.
It's all business, it all cost money.
Don't fall into the trap of believing a simple code scan is a diagnostic. AutoZone wants to sell you parts. They'll scan your codes and sell you parts. Doesn't mean it will fix anything.
