How often should I change my oil?
A safe, reliable rule is every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.
Even though modern synthetic oil can last longer, most real-world driving (short trips, traffic, temperature changes) causes oil to break down faster than ideal conditions. Over time, oil also collects moisture, fuel residue, and contaminants—even if the car isn’t driven much.
Sticking to 5,000 miles or 6 months keeps the engine consistently protected, reduces wear, and helps prevent long-term issues, especially in everyday driving conditions.
