No new driver wants to think about breaking down, but knowing what to do makes it a lot less scary. If something feels wrong, turn on your hazard lights and ease the car as far off the road as you safely can, ideally onto a shoulder or into a parking lot.

Every new driver should have a few basics in the car for the day something goes wrong. A phone charger, a small flashlight, jumper cables, a basic first aid kit, a bottle of water and a copy of the insurance card and registration are a good start.

The first real cool morning is coming and it always finds the same things.

Batteries cooked in August. Heaters nobody has run since March. Wipers dried out in the sun. Tires that quietly lost pressure. Coolant nobody has tested in years.

Some of the work we like most arrives because somebody else gave up on it.

An intermittent electrical fault that three shops could not find. A diesel that runs fine until it does not. A noise that never happens when the vehicle is on somebody else's lift.

Those take patience and a meter and a willingness to keep testing rather than keep guessing. They are also the ones that are genuinely satisfying to solve.

Our technicians are ASE certified, which means they sat for independent testing on the systems they work on rather than simply claiming experience.

We also carry nationwide parts and service backing through the programs we belong to, which matters if something goes wrong a long way from Tulsa.

None of that makes a shop good on its own. Plenty of other things go into that. But all of it means somebody outside this building has looked, and that is worth more than anything we could say about ourselves.

Sometimes the repair is real, it is now, and the timing is terrible. Trucks do not break on payday.

We have financing available, because the alternatives people fall back on are worse. Driving something unsafe. Or losing the truck that the work depends on, which costs a great deal more than any repair.

Most major failures on a modern vehicle are not sudden. They are the end of a long, quiet decline in a fluid that stopped doing its job.

Transmission fluid that lost its friction properties. Coolant that stopped protecting against corrosion. Brake fluid that absorbed moisture and lowered its own boiling point. Differential and transfer case fluid nobody has thought about since the truck was new.

Fluid service will never feel as satisfying as a new part. It is also the cheapest insurance on the vehicle by a wide margin.
