Often it is a thin film of rust on the rotor. Cast iron rusts fast when a car sits wet overnight. The first few stops scrape that film off. You may hear a squeal or feel a light grab. If the pedal is firm and the car tracks straight, that noise usually fades after a short drive.

โข The grind keeps going after several miles
โข The pedal feels soft or sinks
โข The car pulls left or right
โข You smell burning, or the brake light is on
โข You hear metal on metal
Do not spray anything on the rotor. Lubricant on the braking surface cuts stopping power.
