Check Engine Light On? Code P0420 Explained

If your car, truck, or SUV is showing P0420, it usually means “Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold.” In simple terms, your vehicle’s computer thinks the catalytic converter is not cleaning exhaust gases efficiently enough.

Common causes include:

Failing catalytic converter
The converter may be worn out, clogged, or damaged.
Bad oxygen sensor
A faulty upstream or downstream O2 sensor can send incorrect readings.
Exhaust leak
Leaks near the manifold, converter, or exhaust pipe can affect sensor readings.
Engine misfires
Misfires can send unburned fuel into the exhaust and damage the converter.
Rich or lean fuel mixture
Fuel system issues can cause the engine to run improperly and trigger the code.

Steps to help fix P0420:

✅ Scan for additional trouble codes
✅ Inspect the exhaust system for leaks
✅ Check oxygen sensor readings
✅ Repair any misfires or fuel mixture issues first
✅ Replace faulty O2 sensors if needed
✅ Replace the catalytic converter only after confirming it has failed

⚠️ Do not rush to replace the catalytic converter without proper diagnosis. Sometimes the issue is a sensor, exhaust leak, or engine performance problem.

Fixing P0420 early can help protect your engine, improve emissions, and prevent more expensive repairs.

Check Engine Light On? Code P0300 Explained

If your car, truck, or SUV is showing P0300, it means the engine has a random or multiple cylinder misfire. In simple terms, one or more cylinders are not firing properly, which can cause rough idling, poor acceleration, shaking, bad fuel economy, or engine damage if ignored.

Steps to help fix P0300:

Check the spark plugs
Worn, dirty, or damaged spark plugs are one of the most common causes of misfires.
Inspect ignition coils and wires
A weak coil or damaged spark plug wire can prevent proper combustion.
Look for vacuum leaks
Cracked hoses or intake leaks can throw off the air/fuel mixture.
Check the fuel system
Dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or a clogged fuel filter can cause misfires.
Inspect the air intake system
A dirty air filter or faulty mass airflow sensor can affect engine performance.
Scan for additional codes
Other trouble codes can help point to the exact cylinder or system causing the issue.
Do not ignore flashing Check Engine Light
A flashing light usually means active misfiring and possible catalytic converter damage. Stop driving and get it diagnosed.

A P0300 code can start small but become expensive fast. Fix the misfire early to protect your engine and catalytic converter.

🔧 Hearing a growling or humming noise while driving? It could be your wheel bearing.

A failing wheel bearing or hub assembly isn’t just annoying—it’s a serious issue that can impact your vehicle’s safety and performance.

⚠️ Common symptoms of a bad wheel bearing:

Humming, grinding, or growling noise (gets louder with speed)
Vibration in the steering wheel
Uneven or premature tire wear
ABS warning light (in some cases)
Looseness or play in the wheel

🚨 Why you shouldn’t wait:
Driving with a worn wheel bearing can lead to additional damage to your drivetrain and suspension components, increasing repair costs and risking further failure. In extreme cases, it can even affect wheel stability.

✅ Act fast:
Addressing the issue early helps protect your vehicle and keeps you safe on the road.

Don’t ignore the noise—your vehicle is trying to tell you something.

Is your automatic transmission trying to tell you something?

If you’re noticing delayed shifting, rough gear changes, slipping, hesitation, whining noises, or dirty/burnt transmission fluid, it may be time for transmission service maintenance. A clean automatic transmission filter helps protect internal components by trapping debris and keeping fluid flowing properly.

Proper transmission operation and smooth shifting are essential for performance, reliability, and the long-term health of your vehicle. Ignoring early warning signs can lead to bigger and more expensive repairs down the road.

www.subarupartsdeal.com offers genuine OEM replacement filters for your model vehicle, helping ensure the right fit, proper filtration, and dependable performance.
