We are very grateful to all of those who joined us on August 21st for a special evening of the Tucson Auto Museum proudly partnering with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) to celebrate 75 years of drag racing history!

Whether alongside race cars of drag racing history or race cars that will be friendly drag racing competition in the future, our race car team was glad to provide the incredible opportunity of a personal experience with our altered as it was part of the featured displays during this special collaboration.

We want to give a special thanks to Museum Curator Shannon Stone and Division 7 NHRA Director Matt Deyoung for helping to coordinate and host this event on behalf of the Museum and the NHRA. We would also like to give a special thanks to Dan Owens for helping to coordinate this event and inviting us to it. Thank you all for including our race car and team in this collaboration of reliving racing memories and reaching out to the next generation. Thank you all for your amazing support!!!

We had a huge blast of fun and speed on May 15-16th at the Tucson Dragway for Fuel Altered Chaos!!!

Unfortunately due to a mechanical issue during the test and tune on May 14th, our altered got damaged and wasn't able to join in the fast racing action. Our altered was still there on display for our racing fans to get to know all about the race team and the racecar as well as the opportunity to get cool swag.

Despite being out of the competition, we offered and found another way to support our fellow racers and the racing community during the event. Our race team's PR and backup girl "BUG" provided backup support for the raceteam "Nasty Habit" for both qualifying and eliminations of the event. We really appreciate the collaboration with "Nasty Habit" and being able to provide support to them. We look forward to seeing them in future races, including at the next Fuel Altered Chaos at Tucson Dragway in November 2026.

We loved seeing you all there!!! Thank you all for your amazing support. Thank you to Erin Christiansen KOLD News 13 for broadcasting the event to help support it.

Come experience altered racing and support our race team on May 15-16th at the Tucson Dragway for Fuel Altered Chaos!!!

Come see and support our race team tomorrow at Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson for the 2026 SARSEF Racing the Sun (RTS)!!!🏎🏁

Get a personal hands on experience with our altered body alongside high school students racing their own built go karts. We will be supporting the RTS engineering college prep program under the SARSEF (Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation). This non-profit fosters critical thinking and problem-solving in K-12 students through STEM education.🔬

Welcome to Desert Star Motorsports Racing!
Based out of Tucson, Arizona since the late 1980s, our car team runs altered races and funny car races throughout the year.

The altered body is a 1934 Chevy. The funny car body is a 1989 Pontiac Trans AM. For both cars, the engine is a 540 cubic inch big block Chevrolet with Turbo 400 automatic and 1,700 horse power that runs on alcohol fuel.
With this build, our cars achieve crazy speeds between 180 to 200 MPH!!!

Come support us at the dragway races and get blown away by insane speed! Our car team loves to keep the tradition alive and to give lasting experiences to all of our amazing fans. We look forward to seeing you all at the races!
