We were enjoying our “bacon pancakes” breakfast outside yesterday in the rural high desert, when a man walked by juggling! We invited him for pancakes and cactus coolers and he told us about his plans to walk and juggle his way across the country from Santa Monica to New York juggling to support circus arts, you never know what you will see on Historic Route 66!

We would like to extend sincere thanks to Mike Ward for generously donating this remarkable framed 1951 Mobiloil Arizona Roadmap to Frontier Station.

The year 1951 is especially meaningful to Truxton when it emerged along Route 66, with gas stations, cafes, and motels built to welcome travelers crossing the Mother Road. By 1981, the final Interstate 40 bypass was completed, diverting traffic far away from this section of Route 66. Businesses closed one by one until 2012, when the last remaining motel and café shut their doors, and Truxton faded off the maps.

Today, Truxton is not an incorporated town, village, or city. It is classified only as a Census Designated Place (CDP), it does not even have its own ZIP code. Officially, residents' addresses belong to Peach Springs or Valentine. In many ways, Truxton exists more in memory than on paper.

The stories, photographs, buildings, and artifacts that remain keep its history alive. This 1951 roadmap is more than a map—it is a snapshot of the moment when Truxton was coming to life, and a reminder of the travelers, families, and businesses that made this stretch of Route 66 special.

Thank you, Mike, for helping preserve a piece of that history for future generations.

We got a Red Flag notice Saturday morning (Wind and Dust!) and considered canceling roadside breakfast, but we cooked inside the garage instead and it was fine. Afterwards Mike and Shawn delivered this beauty!! We love the real patina, we plan to give it a new architectural life and purpose here, but this one will never be restored, we love it.
