Designjet Update:

HP DesignJet T3500 Printer Series TECHNICAL NEWSLETTERS FROM CUSTOMER ASSURANCE Date: September 2018 Impact/Severity: Normal Region: WW Support Area: Firmware Audience: Support Confidentiality: Restricted (Service) – HP Workforce + Channel Partners

Firmware release version 03.10.01.1

A new firmware version—03.10.01.1—is now available for the HP DesignJet T3500 Printer series. The firmware can be upgraded using the automatic firmware upgrade functionality (AFU) or by downloading the firmware package from the hp.com website (http://www.hp.com/go/T3500/drivers).
Enhancements

• PCL3 GUI file format print categoritzation: With this new functionality, when printing from HP Click and the PCL3 driver, print categories will work based on print coverage; these are the Mono line, Color line, Low-density and High-density image categories, and will be based on pixel density when using the PCL3 GUI format. In previous firmware releases, all PCL3 GUI prints were categoritzied in the High-density image print category.

• HP 727 Printhead error codes (27.nm:YZ) implemented: New error codes have been implemented to improve printhead diagnosticability; refer to the HP 727 Printhead Error Codes Newsletter, the WISE document c05982211 or the Service Manual for further details.

• New Incremental Purge option in the Service Menu: This new feature will let Service engineers troubleshoot issues without the need of replacing a printhead, by performing extra purges in addition to the automatic purge that happens during printhead installation. Additional purges can help remove the air in the ink tubes so that the printhead can be installed successfully. This functionality can also help identify issues with the ink delivery system due to tube leakages or primer issues. By performing additional purges and observing the ink in the tubes, the Service engineer will be able to diagnose these issues.
- When to use the Incremental Purge option: 1. When a printhead is rejected because air is found in the tubes due to an ISS issue. Once the issue has been fixed, an additional purge can be triggered in order to fill the ink tubes without replacing the printhead. 2. When the primer is not working correctly and the printhead is rejected because no ink has reached it. The Service engineer must first solve the primer issue, and then he or she can use this Service function to troubleshoot and to fill the ink tubes and printheads. 3. If air has entered the tubes due to an air leakage in the printhead latch connection. This Service function will help to eliminate the air in the tubes and to diagnose the ISS issue.

- Prerequisites for running the test:

1. The printer needs to be in the Ready state with no errors and no media loaded; only a Printhead issue can be present.
2. The used printhead needs to be installed in the printer, but it is not going to be recovered by this Service test if it has already been rejected by the printer.
3. Ink cartridges need to have at least 20 mL of ink left to successfully perform the incremental purge operation. 20 mL is enough ink for the servicing and calibration of the printhead (10 mL), and 5 incremental purges (2 mL per purge).

- How to use the test:

1. Enter the Service Menu and scroll down to Incremental Purge. From this point, follow the Front Panel instructions:
2. If the Service engineer presses OK, the printer checks for printhead presence and starts the incremental purge operation.
3. Before starting the incremental purge, the Service engineer must check for air bubbles in the ink tubes.
4. If the printer is showing the symptoms of one of the issues described, the Service engineer should press OK to start the incremental purge process. When triggered, the incremental purge option runs the servicing and calibration of the printhead, plus one incremental purge. Additional incremental purges can be triggered without conditioning the printhead again. Be aware that if more than 5 incremental purges are required, the minimum amount of ink will be higher than the recommended value of 20 mL.
5. The Front Panel notifies the Service engineer when the purge has finished and asks him if he wants to run an additional purge. To determine if extra purges are required, the engineer should check if any air bubbles are still present in the ink tubes. Additional purges can be performed by pressing OK. The number of additional purges that can be performed is limited by the amount of ink available in the cartridges. On the other hand, if he decides to cancel the incremental purge, the printer will perform the necessary steps to get the printhead ready.
6. Before exiting the incremental purge process, the printer services the printhead and performs a TTOE calibration (internal Printhead calibration).
7. Once this process is finished, a success message is displayed. Pressing OK sets the Front Panel back to the Service Menu.

Fixes
• Implemented a voltage detection fix that reduces the amount of printhead reseat issues that can occur during printhead initialization sequences. • Fixed an issue where jobs sent via HP Click were classified as being sent via the driver in the accounting report. • Fixed an issue where an incorrect printhead manufacturing date was displayed. • An Ink Delivery System pressure functionality improvement has been added to prevent air flow from the cartridges to the ink tubes.

For any additional help or clarification, please contact the next level of your Technical Support team.

Troubleshooting for “Printer freezing when powering off” issue in the T830
printer series
Overview
An issue that prevents the printer from powering off after performing Scan to Network Folder was found with
firmware releases 1803A, 1810A, and 1829A.
Please follow the steps provided in this newsletter when presented with an occurrence of the described issue.
IMPORTANT: Do not replace the printer’s Main PCA to troubleshoot this issue.
A firmware release to fix this issue is under development.

Affected printers
Product name Printer model number
HP DesignJet T830 24in Multifunction Printer F9A28A
HP DesignJet T830 24in Multifunction Printer F9A28B
HP DesignJet T830 36in Multifunction Printer F9A30A
HP DesignJet T830 36in Multifunction Printer F9A30B

NOTE: Only printers with firmware version 1803A, 1810A, and 1829A are affected by this
issue.
Issue description
After performing a Scan to Network Folder operation, the customer can’t power off the device when pressing
the power button in printers with firmware version 1803A, 1810A, and 1829A installed. During the shutdown
procedure, the printer hangs showing the front panel screen seen below, and the blue arch stops spinning. Under
normal circumstances, the printer should power off in approximately 10 seconds after pressing the power
button.

The scenario in which this issue is presented is the following:
1. Printer is turned on and working.
2. Customer performs Scan to Network Folder.
3. Customer presses the power button to shut down the printer.
4. The printer hangs during the shutdown procedure.
If the customer does not perform a Scan to Network operation before powering off the printer, the issue is not seen.
The root cause of the issue is a problem with a library used in the Scan to Network operation. When completing a Scan to Network, this library is not being properly disconnected and is preventing the printer from entering a ready to shut down state.
How to recover the printer
To recover the printer after it has hanged in the shutdown screen, the customer should disconnect the power cable from the printer and then wait 5 seconds before plugging it back in again.
Once the power cable has been plugged in, the printer can be booted up normally.
Current workaround
To avoid this issue, the customer can use the sleep mode feature instead of powering off the printer. If the printer is left idle for some time, it will go into sleep mode and switch off the front-panel display. To change the time that elapses before the printer enters sleep mode, press , and then navigate to Printer setup > Sleep mode. The timer can be set between 5 and 240 minutes.

If the sleep mode feature can’t be used, the printer firmware can be downgraded to version 1727A, which is free from this issue. This firmware release is available at the following ftp:
