When I opened social media to post today's Friday Shop Shots, I noticed this Sunday is National Parents Day.
So today, we're tipping our hats to "The Ol' Man." Pop. Dad. The Marvelous Mr. Marty. The picture attached is of him with his boys, taken about 10 years ago at his younger sons wedding.
Martin started building boats as a young man and quickly realized he'd found his calling. Beginning in traditional wooden boatbuilding, he became a master carpenter before eventually trading sawdust for fiberglass. After years of building for others, he took a leap of faith and founded Composite Yacht, with a vision centered on wood-free composite construction. He immersed himself in the craft, and his ambition, relentless work ethic, engineering mindset, and obsession with doing things the right way became the foundation of every Composite Yacht that followed.
Growing up in boatyards, his sons inherited the same love for boats that he passed down to us.
From humble beginnings in a small rented shop tucked behind a UPS depot, Composite Yacht has grown into a thriving company with multiple shops, incredible projects underway, and an exceptionally talented and dedicated crew.
These days, Martin isn't running builds anymore. Instead, he's settled into the much more "relaxed" role of making sure the rest of us don't tear too much stuff up... and fixing it when we do.
Some people build boats.
Others build companies, careers, families, and legacies.
Legend status. Happy National Parents Day, Pop.
