So I guess I’m old now. I’ve been having trouble making good looking TIG welds lately, but a pair of reading glasses helped get me sorted out. Happy to solve the problem, but bummed about growing up.

Hey , what are you guys doing to help your dealers survive right now? I still see the tool trucks doing their normal routes going from shop to shop delivering high quality tools, and now maybe Coronavirus. I understand why the dealers need to do this to survive, but now might be a good time for the corporate offices to help these guys out so they can stay home. For those of you that don’t know, these tool trucks go from one shop to another, and everyone at each shop comes into the little showroom inside, and they handle the tools, pay their bill, and often get some free candy. From a social distancing standpoint it is about as bad as it gets, and it would be possible for them to spread virus all over town, super quickly.

A “Dust Out” is when dirt fills the interior of the car until the driver can’t see. (Top pic) this is super common at el Mirage, as the racing surface is a dry lake bed, made of dried dirt that creates a super fine, powdery dust. If the drivers compartment is a low pressure area, the dust comes in through every hole and crack, completely filling the car until the driver is blind. It seems like everyone who races here struggles with this, and we were no exception. I added the little scoop at the base of the windshield, which rams air into the car, making some pressure, and same spray foam in the frame rails pretty much cured it. (Lower pic)

Our front wheels are space saver spares from a Mazda MPV minivan. It’s really hard to find skinny wheels with the huge backspacing we need to get the scrub radius we want, but these wheels had the correct bolt pattern and offset, and are even hubcentric on the 300zx hubs we are running. When I got them, they still had the “50mph max speed” warning stickers on them. Now they’ve gone 229, on a 5 thousand pound car! .
