When the AC quits in a Texas summer, it is not a minor inconvenience. So when this Kia came in blowing warm air, we knew the fix was going to be a big one.

Take a look at these photos. That is the entire dashboard pulled apart, steering column dropped, wiring laid out and labeled. All of that work just to reach one part: the evaporator core.

The evaporator is what actually pulls the heat out of your cabin air. Refrigerant runs through it and absorbs the warmth before cool air ever reaches your vents. The catch is that it sits buried deep inside the HVAC box behind the dash, so getting to it means nearly gutting the interior. It is one of the most labor intensive AC jobs there is, but a leaking or failed evaporator means no cold air, plain and simple.

Our tech took his time, kept every connector and fastener organized, and put this Kia back together right so the customer stays comfortable all summer. No shortcuts, no leftover rattles.

This is the kind of work nobody sees once the dash goes back on, but it is exactly why folks trust us with the jobs some shops would rather pass on.

Be honest, what is the one thing you absolutely cannot drive without when the Houston heat sets in? Cold AC has to be near the top of that list. If yours is not keeping up, give us a call at 281-516-9400.

Turn the key and all you get is a click? That little sound is your car trying to tell you something, and it usually comes down to one of two things.

A rapid, machine-gun clicking is often the battery. There is not enough power left to fully engage the starter, so it just chatters instead of cranking. A single solid click followed by nothing usually points to the starter motor itself, that silver component sitting on our shop floor. Its only job is to get the engine spinning, and once the internals wear out you get the click without the crank.

Here is the part a lot of folks have backwards: Texas summer heat is harder on a battery than our mild winters. All that heat under the hood cooks it from the inside and shortens its life, so a battery that felt fine in March can strand you in July. Most last around 3 to 5 years, and this kind of heat tends to push them toward the short end of that range.

Good news is a click is very diagnosable. A quick battery and charging system test tells us whether you need a battery, a starter, or just a cleaned-up connection, ideally before it leaves you sitting in a parking lot.

Heard that click lately? Give us a call at 281-516-9400 and we will track it down.

Mythbuster Wednesday: “Once a vehicle crosses 200,000 miles, it’s basically done.”

Meet this Nissan Hardbody. Nearly 390,000 miles on the odometer and still running strong. It’s in the shop for some routine TLC and maintenance, not a major repair.

Here’s the truth: high mileage isn’t the killer most people think it is. Neglected maintenance is. Skipped oil changes, ignored cooling system services, putting off that transmission flush… those are what cut a vehicle’s life short. This truck made it past 380k because someone actually took care of it along the way.

These older Hardbodies were built simple and tough, but the principle applies to anything in your driveway. Stick to the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals, address small issues before they snowball, and your vehicle will pay you back in years.

What’s the highest mileage you’ve ever put on a vehicle? We love hearing the stories of trucks and cars that just refuse to quit.

Call us at 281-516-9400 to keep yours running for the long haul.

🔧 Tuesday Repair Spotlight: Can you guess what stumped this Chevy?

The owner of this Chevy pickup pulled in with a frustrating problem. The gauges had a mind of their own. The speedometer would stick, the fuel gauge bounced around, and eventually the whole cluster went dark while driving. No warning lights, no clear pattern, just a dash that couldn’t be trusted.

So what was the culprit?

If you guessed the instrument cluster itself, you nailed it. These GM trucks are well known for cluster failures, usually from worn stepper motors behind the gauges and tired solder connections on the circuit board. When those give out, the needles stick, readings drift, and the display can quit entirely. It’s not a wiring issue and it’s not the sensors. The cluster itself reaches the end of its life.

We replaced the unit and got every gauge reading accurately again, including a properly calibrated odometer so the mileage carried over correctly. Back to a dash the owner can actually rely on.

A dead speedometer or fuel gauge is more than annoying. It can put you on the wrong side of a speeding ticket or leave you stranded on the shoulder. If your gauges have started acting up, give us a call at 281-516-9400 and we’ll take a look.

Has a gauge ever lied to you at the worst possible moment? We’d love to hear how that story ended.

Friday win we’re happy about.

A truck came in this week because the check engine light popped on. No major drama yet, the truck still drove okay, but the owner didn’t wait around to see what would happen.

Good call. We found a catalytic converter starting to clog up and restrict the exhaust. Left alone, that’s where the real trouble begins: power loss, sinking fuel economy, misfires, and eventually even engine damage. We sorted it out before any of that took hold.

The part we love about this job: that light is so easy to ignore. People drive on it for months and let a small problem grow. This owner trusted it early, and that turned a big potential repair into a simple one.

So tell us, have you ever had a check engine light you almost ignored that turned out to be something real? We’ve heard some good ones.

Nothing puts an AC system to the test quite like a Texas summer, and this Honda CR-V rolled in with a familiar complaint: cold air that just doesn’t last.

When refrigerant slowly disappears, there’s almost always a leak somewhere. The catch is that some leaks are far too small to spot with a quick visual check. That’s where this setup comes in.

Instead of refrigerant, we pressurize the system with a nitrogen mix. Nitrogen is dry and inert, so it won’t introduce any moisture into the system, and we can run it at a higher pressure than the AC normally sees. That extra pressure helps push even the slowest leaks to the surface, whether it’s a tired O-ring, a corroded line, or a hairline crack in the condenser. Once we pinpoint it, we fix the actual problem instead of just topping off refrigerant and sending you back out to lose it again a few weeks later.

Chasing your AC charge all summer gets old fast. When did you first notice yours wasn’t keeping up the way it used to? Tell us about it, odds are we’ve seen it before.

There’s a reason you see RAV4 Hybrids everywhere around Tomball, and it’s not just the gas mileage.

This blue one rolled in today for what we like to call a “good news” visit. No surprises, no warning lights, just routine care: oil and filter change, a brake fluid flush, and a tire rotation. The kind of appointment that keeps a vehicle boring in all the best ways.

This generation of RAV4 Hybrid has earned its reputation. Toyota’s hybrid system has been refined over millions of miles on the road, and when an owner stays on top of basic maintenance, these things just keep going.

One detail worth knowing on hybrids: the brake fluid flush matters more than people expect. Hybrids use regenerative braking, so the pads often last a long time and folks assume the brakes don’t need attention. But brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time no matter how lightly you drive. That moisture lowers its boiling point and can lead to corrosion inside the brake system. That’s why it’s a time-based service, not just a mileage one. Toyota generally calls for it around every 3 years.

Stay on schedule, and a RAV4 Hybrid will reward you for a long, long time.

What’s the highest mileage you’ve ever put on a Toyota? We’d love to hear how far yours has gone.

Texas heat has a way of exposing every weak spot in a cooling system, and this Infiniti QX4 was no exception. The owner brought it in with a coolant leak and a few other cooling system concerns that needed sorted out.

After a closer look, we traced the leak back to a failing radiator. On an SUV this age, it’s a familiar story. Plastic end tanks get brittle, cores corrode, and eventually something gives. We installed a new radiator and, since the cooling system was already opened up, replaced the thermostat and gasket as well. Tackling everything in one visit saves the customer a second labor charge down the road and gives the whole system a fresh start heading into summer.

We love seeing older rigs like this still earning their keep. A well cared for QX4 can run a long time, and this one is back on the road ready for whatever Houston summer throws at it.

What’s the oldest vehicle still in your daily rotation? We’d love to hear what’s still going strong in your driveway.

Long crank, rough idle, and a customer who just wanted their truck to start like normal again.

This 2007 Nissan Xterra came in with all the signs of a bad camshaft position sensor. Easy fix, right? Slap a new sensor on and move on. But we checked the wiring first, and that’s where the real problem was hiding. A compromised signal feeding the sensor was throwing off the ECU’s fuel and spark timing, causing every symptom the customer described.

Repaired the wiring, and she’s starting right up again. No new sensor needed.

What’s the trickiest “won’t start right” issue you’ve ever dealt with?

Buying a “new to you” vehicle is exciting, especially when there’s a road trip already on the calendar. But even on a low-mileage 2023 Lexus, the smart move before hitting the highway is a thorough once-over from a shop you trust.

This GX 460 just rolled in with its new owner. They’re hitting the road soon and wanted us to give it a full pre-trip inspection before they take off.

A proper pre-trip check is about catching the stuff that actually leaves people stranded. We go through fluid levels and condition across the board (engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission, transfer case, and front and rear differentials on a 4WD like this one). Tire tread, pressure, and age. Brake pads, rotors, and lines. Belts, hoses, battery health, suspension components, and the AC system, because nobody wants to break down in Texas heat without cold air. The GX 460 has a reputation for going the distance, and a quick look now beats a tow bill later.

Where’s your favorite road trip destination from the Houston area? Always love hearing where folks are headed when they bring their ride in.

Planning a trip soon? Swing by and let us give your vehicle a proper look before you head out.

Nothing flashy on the lift today, just a clean 2019 F150 in for an oil change and state inspection. Regular maintenance is what keeps these trucks running strong well past 200,000 miles.

Got an inspection coming up anyway? Stack it with service you already need. Mention code INSPECTION150 when you call or bring it up at checkout, and your inspection is free with $150 or more in service. Two errands, one trip.
