WHY YOU WANT COMMUNITY CAR CARE AS YOUR MECHANIC
Auto mechanics aren't what they used to be. These days shops repair cars by replacing parts until the problem goes away - it's an Easter Egg Hunt orchestrated by the shop manager, who's objective is profit. In many shops, the mechanics don't understand what half the systems that make up the car actually even do. Asking a mechanic to troubleshoot a problem is a crap-shoot, one that a majority of the time costs you more money than it should.
To add to it, even chain shops and dealers are now taking you to the cleaners unnecessarily. I had a customer recently that took her Saab to a chain because her brake pedal was hard and would barely stop her car. They quoted her close to $1000 to replace the master cylinder, booster, and all four calipers. I walked up to the car, replaced the vacuum line to the booster and charged her $25 for my gas, time and materials...

You'll notice several things that are different about the work I do:
1. I don't guess, I troubleshoot
2. I explain and demonstrate to you what the failure is, how the system should be and what the options for repair are
3. Whenever possible, I repair a damaged part, provided I can ensure my repair (and the significant savings that accompany it) can perform the function it is designed to
4. I warranty all labor for 1 FULL YEAR against labor related failures (including repair v replace scenarios)
5. I don't markup parts - you pay what I pay; so I have no reason to sell you parts you don't need
6. My objective is to stay at or under the estimate, even if I have to short myself in the process - I'm big on setting and meeting expectations
7. I immediately communicate to you whenever the estimate is in jeopardy or new information is discovered, and provide you with all the facts and options so you can make an informed decision
8. I show you the new part (when applicable and feasible) and provide you with the removed part (when applicable), explaining the failure to you and what, if anything, you can do to avoid a repeat failure
In the past 2 months, nearly half of the jobs I've done have been jobs previously attempted by other mechanics from Craigslist that either made matters worse or replaced a bunch of parts and never fixed the problem. I've not had a single customer bring their vehicle back because my work failed, but several have brought it back to get additional work done.
