Grateful to be apart of such a dedicated & hardworking community. Thank you!
Thank you, Stephens County! 🌟
We want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to our incredible team of first responders and the Stephens County Road Department.
“Winter Storm Fern brought its fair share of ice and challenges, but because of pre-planning and teamwork, we were able to keep our citizens safe. While most were tucked away at home, these crews were out in the freezing cold, clearing roads and responding to calls to ensure help was always just a phone call away,” said Sheriff Rusty Fulbright. “We are proud to serve a county where everyone pulls in the same direction. To our dispatchers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS, and road crews, you are the backbone of Stephens County.”
Special thanks to local power crews with Georgia Power, Hart EMC, and Habersham EMC. They worked quickly and diligently to restore power outages throughout the county. Our city, county, and state road crews also did an amazing job pre-treating and clearing roadways prior to and during the ice storm!
To the citizens of Stephens County: “Thank you.” You all planned ahead and were ready for what we anticipated would be a very dangerous ice storm. By being prepared and staying home, we were able to prioritize clearing roadways of debris and responding to help those in need. You rock, citizens of Stephens County!
Check out the numbers:
SCSO deputies responded to 236 calls for service between Saturday, January 24, and yesterday, January 27, 2026 at 12 p.m. (This number does not include routine business checks and extra patrol.) Both city and county law enforcement officers responded to at least 52 trees down, 10 wires down, and 40 road hazards. SCSO deputies responded to six fire-related incidents and three motor vehicle accidents due to vehicles sliding on ice (no reported injuries). We also delivered firewood to 31 homes – the majority of which use firewood as a primary heat source.
Stay safe, stay warm, and thank you for looking out for one another!
*We are currently monitoring the weather for potential snow impacts this weekend. We encourage you to continue to drive with caution, as some roadways are still icy and may become icy again this weekend. Monitor local news, NWS, our social media and mobile app, and Stephens County 911 for any updates. Please also join us in praying for our friends in Habersham and White counties who experienced heavy impact from Winter Storm Fern.
