all,
Here’s an update on the latest goings-on at the Viper Pit Slot Car Raceway. In addition, I offer a look ahead.

Monday, February 19
We had our usual off week as we changed our weekly series. Kirby made a good suggestion that we adopt a class for these off-weeks. Aaron and I like the idea – we’ll propose an off-season, once-every-ten-week race in time.
Saturday, February 24
We ran the AWRA Southeast Regional Championship series and following the racing, we declared our own Hugh Hampton the overall champ. Congratulations to Hugh, and in fact to all entries who competed in the series! Please go to our website and view the results as well as some pictures.
Monday, February 26
We started our latest weekly series, on our Engleman track. This is a GTP-body flexi series in which Top Secret/Kelly Intimidator or Mid-America Enforcer motors are permitted (13/37). During this first race, Ben won, while running a 3.887-second lap on yellow, which is moving down the road! Join us on next Monday, March 4, for round 2, to be run on the Blue King..Please see round 1 results and pictures on our website.
Looking forward, we have..
Monday-night weekly series, 6:15 PM
March 4 – round 2 of 9
March 11 – round 3 of 9
March 18 – round 4 of 9
March 25 - round 5 of 9
Saturday racing, 2:00 PM
March 2 – no scheduled race, test-n-tune day
March 9 – mini-enduro race #2 of 4, DTM per published weekly rules + driver-choice open 64-pitch gearing and required, painted 3-D driver, Blue King track
* March 16 – Hardbody racing on the Daytona Tri-oval concurrently with Newbies race on the Blue King. Afterwards, if sufficient turnout, a Legends Womp race will take place on the Engleman, using AWRA rules.
March 23 – SERRA, retro racing on each track, IRRA rules
March 30 - no scheduled race, test-n-tune day
* Regarding the Newbies class, we currently allow more of a race-what-you-brung entry, but with time and increased participation we will formulate a more precise specification. This racing includes young people who have their own equipment as well as those using the Viper Pit’s rental supplies. The entry fee will be $5 per entry, for those with their own equipment and $10 per entry for those requiring a car or controller.
The Hardbody series will for the present retain the same standards we currently have:
1. 4-1/2" Pro-track frame, with 1/8' rear and 3/32" front axles. oilites or bushings throughout. No cutting frame, may add chassis bracing or weight on top of frame.
2. Mid-America Stomp (30K) motor geared at 9/26 (48-pitch)
3. All entries must use white-lettered tires, in the spirit of realistic NASCAR racing. The Viper Pit stocks white-lettered Pro track tires, but Mid-America white-lettered hardbody tires are also acceptable. The entry clearances are .047" across rear axle and .010" across front axle. Maximum 3.25" width at tires.
4. Modern (1980 or newer) 1/24- or 1/25-scale hardbody Nascar kit. A 2-D or 3-D driver using at least two colors must be used. No excessive wallowing out of wheel wells to artificially lower the body. The body must retain the original plastic windshield and windows. The chassis and guide flag must not protrude from the mounted body.
5. The minimum weight at tech shall be 170 grams.
Note, hardbody rules may be amended as we gain more experience with this class.
