Today, the world says goodbye to one of cinema's true legends. Sir Sam Neill, the acclaimed New Zealand actor whose unforgettable career spanned more than five decades, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2026, at the age of 78. His family shared that he died peacefully in Sydney, surrounded by loved ones, and that he was cancer-free at the time of his passing.

For millions around the world, Sam Neill will forever be remembered as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, a role that inspired generations of movie fans. He also delivered remarkable performances in The Piano, The Hunt for Red October, Dead Calm, Merlin, and Peaky Blinders, earning widespread acclaim and leaving an unforgettable mark on film and television.

Many NASCAR fans have a special connection to Neill as well.
