They are utilizing individual mechanics and heavy belt-driven overhead line shafts to assemble drive chains. This specific photograph captures workers at the Duckworth Chain Company in Springfield, Massachusetts, around 1913. At the time, they were heavily focused on producing high-quality heavy-duty drive chains for the local Indian Motocycle.

The Foundation: The company established itself as a premier developer of bicycle, motorcycle, and industrial roller chains in the early 20th century. Its manufacturing base in Springfield closely tied it to the pioneering days of American motorsports.
