Toyota Recalls Gas-Only Tundra and Lexus LX for Potential V6 Engine Machining Debris

Tundra forums are full of horror stories alleging catastrophic engine failures. Toyota has finally issued a mea culpa for a metric ton of trucks and Lexus LX 600 sport utility vehicles equipped with the V35A-FTS engine, a twin-turbo V6 that premiered in 2017 with the fifth-gen Lexus LS.

Toyota has issued two separate recalls for gas-only Tundra pickup trucks and LX 600 luxury SUVs: the first for approximately 102,000 vehicles produced for the US market and the second for just under 10,000 vehicles produced for Canada. The world's largest automaker has confirmed what service techs have been hypothesizing for two years now.

Honda Recalls Ridgeline Models

America Honda Motor is recalling certain 2020-2024 Ridgeline vehicles. The rearview camera (RVC) tailgate wire harness may fatigue and break, which can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying.

The NHTSA campaign number is 24V321000.
The potential number of units affected is 187,290.
Dealers will replace the RVC tailgate wire harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 1. Honda's number for this recall is YI7.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Honda) and IBM have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to embark on the long-term joint research and development of next-generation semiconductor and software technologies essential for the future of software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This partnership aims to tackle significant challenges associated with processing capability, power consumption, and design complexity, which are crucial for the realization of advanced SDVs.

As the automotive industry progresses towards 2030 and beyond, the integration of intelligence and AI technologies is expected to surge, paving the way for the development of SDVs. Honda and IBM foresee that these vehicles will require semiconductors with significantly higher processing performance and lower power consumption than those in conventional mobility products. The collaboration seeks to develop specialized semiconductor technologies, including brain-inspired computing and chiplet technologies, to meet these demands.

Honda releases position statement on bumper cover repairs for AcuraWatch 360

Honda has released a position statement for bumper cover repairs on models equipped with the AcuraWatch 360 system, which will feature technology advancements. At this time, the position statement specifically applies to the Acura 2025 MDX Type S with the advanced package, according to John Peixoto, with American Honda Motor Co. Inc.

“Being that this is new technology to Honda, we want to do everything we can to get the information out to the necessary parties,” Peixoto said. Technology advancements on the vehicle include updated front long-range millimeter wave radar behind the Acura emblem, updated front camera at the top of the windshield, new steering wheel touch sensors, and new millimeter wave radars at all four corners. The hardware will enable features such as Active Lane Change Assist, Lane Change Collision Mitigation and Front Cross Traffic Warning.

Self-driving cars could lead to a fourth, white traffic signal — or no signals at all: researchers

The first 'municipal traffic control' system appeared in Cleveland in 1914 with just green and red lights, and yellow was added a few years later. The advent of self-driving cars could lead to a number of changes to traffic laws down the road, including a possible fourth traffic signal, researchers say.

On top of the ubiquitous red, yellow and green, a white light could signal that autonomous vehicles are in charge of the intersection. Or the vehicles could possibly make signals irrelevant altogether. North Carolina State University associate engineering professor Ali Hajbabaie is among those imagining the future of traffic lights.

Chevrolet Ending Production Of Last Gas-Powered Sedan

GM is focusing on producing EVs, as well as as crossover and sport utility vehicles, which have surpassed cars in popularity.

General Motors announced it will discontinue the Chevrolet Malibu -- the brand's last gasoline-powered sedan -- by the end of this year as it focuses on electric vehicles, starting with the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EVs.

Since its debut in 1964, the Chevrolet Malibu has been a staple on roads worldwide, with more than 10 million units sold. However, the iconic model will see its production halted in November, as GM repurposes its manufacturing efforts towards electric vehicles at its Kansas assembly plant with an investment of $390 million.

New Tech That Will Prevent Wheels From Flying Off Is Coming

The technology will become a standard feature in a production vehicle this year. Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), the parent company of the Falken tire brand, has introduced a new technology set to prevent wheels from accidental detachment. The Japanese company said the feature will become standard in a production vehicle this year.

Needless to say, wheels flying off accidentally is dangerous for both the vehicle and other road users. We've seen these countless times, almost always followed by a catastrophic incident. The new tech aims to prevent these mishaps by letting the drivers know if their wheel nuts are becoming loose.
